I'll come up with something witty or brilliant again for next time. It's been a hell of a week. So after dinner and two more episodes of SOA Season 1, unwinding and checking my favourite (non nude) cyberhaunts has brought to light the following videos.

I don't really understand Tumblr. I've seen some good pages, but most look like a giant mess to me.

I'm sure I thought the same of Facebook and Twitter at first. There's only so much use of networking and social media sites this man can take advantage of...... however.........

My "Best of 2011...."

It's that time of year when everyone is posting up their "Best of" lists so why should I be any different?

I hope mine delivers some more insight into what I'm all about and what goes on in my world, cyber and real.

Some of these ideas and mentions have been in my head for a while now and I'm pretty sure I have also forgotten a bunch of stuff but to hell with it. Below you'll find a mix of the materialistically shallow as well as the personal deep and meaningful.

As Kel (from Kenan and) would say, "Ah here goes!"

Movie

You know as much as I love going to the movies there just isn't the time, or at least we don't make the time. That's speaking about grown up movies. We've made an effort to start taking the kids on a Saturday morning to see such gems as Cars 2 and Mr Popper's Penguins. The kids don't yet have as much love for the cinema experience and prefer DVDs at home but we'll keep trying in 2012. (note they DO love popcorn!)

Album

OK I've been vocal and said this a few times already but Hip Hop rocked my world this year. And these guys topped the list in no particular order as they are all dope.

This one is tough as I saw some amazing acts in 2011 but I'll break it down to just three and why.
Jane's Addiction - my favourite band. Perry exuded mystical sexual otherworldly awesomeness. Just like I always dreamed he would.
House of Pain - They made it OK to love rap for a skinny white boy in the UK in the early 90s. Credibility, rhyme styles and lifestyles. SA ALL DAY. Heroes of mine, peace to Danny and Erik.
The Rhymesayers Tour - Went to see Evidence first and foremost. Came home musically in love and in awe of the energy and skill presented by Ev himself, Brother Ali and Grieves & Budo.

Sneaker

My G.O.A.T. sneaker has to be and always will be the Jordan V. Copped the black 2011 version with the new icy blue sole. Nothing but love for this re-released retro with the anti-yellowing addition.

Purchase (Apparel/Sneaker/Other)

Bought my first leather jacket from HD Lee and I swear it made me a man. (I was 35 already but you get me)
Thanks to my buddy Adam all the way from NJ, I re-copped the Air Max 90 Infrareds. I snapped them up when they re-released but sold them to free up funds for something else. When you don't make a lot you got to make sacrifices.
One of the best decisions I made this year was to choose the HTC Sensation XE phone. My first android phone, caters to all my needs (music, camera, internet, video) and even makes calls and sends texts. The baby brother of the XL model (but still a big bastard) and comes with Beats by Dre earphones. Every commute I'm smiling and keeping up with the world.

Brand

I'm giving this one to the newly established November Red. I'm happy to be in touch with the founder and designer and it's been a real rise for the brand from conception to opening and the offerings of their second collection. The product quality, graphics and even packaging have been second to none. All of this has been shared on Hypebeast and also via Twitter. Other brands that sparked my interest were the likes of Mister, Blood Bath and Crabtree Lane. Keep an eye on 746INDASTREETS for 2012.

Website

I continue to frequent pretty much the same sites like Hypebeast, Highsnobiety, Freshness. Although lots of the updates and news are shared across these sites, it's interesting to see how they spin it, if at all, to make it different. Hypebeast have taken on some good writers and photographers which I applaud, and is only let down by the ability for total idiots to leave comments on features.
Another site continuing to excel is The Daily Street. Again more writers have been added to the roster and I enjoyed many recaps of events and dope mixtapes.
I think the most intriguing website (blog) of the year for me has to be from Gwarizm. I'm starting to understand that his mind is filled with a ton of facts, opinions and even the odd rant or two. His ability to put into words all of the above and make it coherent is a joy to read.
I've had my eyes opened by countless quite outstanding photos and recollections of events from artist Jun Cha. He says his blog Arudima will take a new form in 2012, always improving and pushing the envelope. Everyone can learn from this man.
The most fascinating to me personally has to be the blog from my good friend Mel. Another one with a way for insightful words and we share most of the same interests. Check it out it might just be for you too.

Person

Lindsey Lohan for her Playboy spread......seriously my wife gets this vote for her unrelenting awesomeness and continued support through thick and thin.

Personal Achievement

Just going to pat myself on the back for a hard fought 12 months at work. Also for seeing the bigger picture and opportunity to step aside whilst still coming out on top with regards to my needs, career and future.

Notable Achievement

My wife completed her first half marathon in a time of 2 hours. That is amazing to me. She is amazing. End of story. Plus my son started school this past September and is already reading and can count to100.

Party

Was lucky to get invited to a few bangers this year but no one does it like Tommy at Christmas. Having said that I was proud to be at the opening party for The Buttery Store. Great guys, hand picked product and new visions. So many on-line venture clones around it is refreshing to have these guys up to bat.

Gift

The iPad 2 from work takes some beating, but I've been privileged to received some amazing works of art in the form of Strings by Camilla Lehn. Hand made and very wearable from the Skulls collection. I wish her all the success possible in business and life in general. Camilla is one of the best.

Fail

WTT. Seriously Jay and Kanye,WTF.
The London Riots.
Last pair of size UK8 Jordan XI (Concords) in Footpatrol and I passed up. Could have used them to pay for something else on the resell tip. For 2012 I am not going to pass up opportunities to help myself, or do things that will benefit others (without resorting to mindless violence of course).

Pick Up

I'd have to say my favourite 'pick up' has to be another work of art by the great Chuey Quintanar on my forearm. Chuey's going from strength to strength and amassing a very big following. I am so glad to have met him and been given the opportunity once more to wear his work. Looking forward to something new in 2012. Got the ideas ready... And just want to ad that I was both envious and in awe of the half sleeve my wife got from artist Lianne Moule of Immortal Ink.

E-cquaintances

I took cyber stalking to a new personal high this year and managed to catch glimpses of DJ Muggs, Bun B, Estevan Oriol, Danny Boy and Everlast thanks to Gumball 3000 and the HOP 20th Anniversary tour. Learning to use Twitter to follow some of the people I respect and believe in has been a real blessing. You all know my motto - Life is about meeting people, connecting and making things happen.

This year I've mostly bought on-line via End Clothing, Sakis, Crookedtongues and Size?. I have to say that the service from Crookedtongues is outstanding.

Recap of Christmas 2011

Christmas is a A time for living, a time for believing. A time for trusting, not deceiving. Love and laughter and joy ever after. Ours for the taking, just follow the master. Or so says Sir Cliff Richard.

For me it's not always a pleasant time and usually comes mixed with apprehension, excitement, anxiety and fear of failure. This year was not too different but came and went without a hitch. It was a blessing to be able to wake up at home and open gifts with the children and their grandmother. Then to be able to visit with my brother and his family until Boxing Day. I think there are going to be a good few 'firsts' happening between our families for 2012 and I can't wait.

Christmas doesn't end until my son has had his birthday on the 30th. Yesterday my son turned 5 and after quite meticulous planning by super Mummy, his party was a complete chaotic success. Magic Billy was on top form, I dressed as Michael Jackson and also danced to Barbie girl. Things a father does for his children eh? There is footage out there somewhere waiting to haunt me.

Looking to the Future

Time to tear down the decorations and get my ass in gear for 2012. I want to set some goals and make them achievable. Anything else that comes along and I can succeed at is very welcome of course.

First real goal is to run in the Bupa London 10k in May. I spent some time at the end of 2011 giving up sugar and soda and felt absolutely great for it. Then I fell off the wagon hard. Now I'm given this chance to start again and get to work on my health and fitness. As Tony Horton would say, BRING IT.

I think maybe resolutions are something not every one need to know unless they are able to contribute like with the above. So just rest assured I'm always working to be better.

And that kind of wraps it up. Most of the above is from the last few months of 2011, partly because my memory is so terrible. I should have gone back through my blog and reminded myself of some of what went on, I'll do that next year.

Great game last night, made even better by the company of family and friends. We deserved something more but it wasn't to be.

Love this photo of a bright young star of ours after the game. He's always showed his passion for the club and fans. And he hilarious on Twitter when not chirpsin' girls.

I don't feel too strongly about the departure of Nasri. His contract came to an end and he got a pay rise if you look at it from a business point of view.

But football is not a business to the supporters. It's not life or death, it's more important than that. Many players could do well to remember that and choose how they behave and what they say wisely.

Ultimately we are their bosses and sign their cheques. Act accordingly.

I want to say a big THANK YOU to @TheRealStanLee and @Jon_Favreau for the movie IRONMAN. This movie is spectacularly awesome each and every time I watch it. OK so Pepper Potts never does get her milkers out but hey we get everything else we could ask for.

I've had a great Sunday. FAMILY FIRST. Exercise (ran 5k), Sport (Cowboys destroyed Buffalo. Eagles and Redskins lost, Giants losing currently) and movies (erm read above). Really how much better does it get? Oh yeah, Pepper Potts' boobs. Please note I am not a Gwyneth Paltrow fan, norks out or not. (NSFW)

Had a busy week. Amazing gig Monday night. Carhartt presented RHYMESAYERS. I was there to see @Evidence and came away desperate to hear more Brother Ali and Grieves & Budo. Outstanding. Rekindled my love for Hip Hop. Again. Happy to be able to say that.

Actually what impressed me the most was the sound in Camden's Electric Ballroom. Hip Hop gigs have a tendency to disappoint with shitty sound and this was probably the crispest sound ever. That was really important for each and every one of these artists. And the DJs killed it too. Banger after banger.

Had a ticket to go see @DJ_Muggs do a dubstep night at Jamm in Brixton for Wednesday. Back of my mind I knew a club-night meant he'd be on late and he confirmed it on Twitter as my brother and I arrived for doors at 9pm. It was a school night and I live over an hour out of London so we called it a night and headed home. Next time!

Also this week I officially stepped down as Manager at work (now you see the title and everything links in right?). We're restructuring the team and responsibilities. I'm 70% happy with the decision and outcome. The 30% will wait for it's day........

What lies ahead is much of the same for me really. Hard work, dedication and commitment. I hope I can say the same from my company. I have faith I really do just gotta keep my wits about me. Times are tough out there right now. We're doing better than good, but we're targeted for even more.

Family news, my nephew has started school here in England. I know he'll love it and I'm really happy for him as he seems to be doing well already. Our kids are the future. No, not yours and people's in general, I mean OUR kids. Watch.

And the wife wants to try to do thirty days without sugar. Week one is over, but is just the 'pretend' week really as we get used to reading ingredients on everything and avoid any obvious sugary foods. The test is to see how it benefits us physically and also mentally. Read on a couple blogs that you can indeed suffer from sugar addiction, and it's as hard as kicking a coke habit. Not Coca-Cola you schmucks, although....

The way this weeks gone down has meant I could only now find time to blog (22:30pm) but I'll do my best to get another WYTBW done as a mid-week catch up for you (and me).

Oh and only just found out that @GhostfaceKillah had a cameo in Ironman that was cut. Sure we get a track bangin' on the jet for thirty or so seconds, but c'mon now THE Tony Starks of the rap world. However having read about the scene I'm not entirely sure I don't agree with the decision. What happened about being him sued over the song title on Supreme Clientele? Haters gonna hate. PEACE.

"Whatchu talkin' 'bout Wednesday" #1

♦♦♦New Feature!♦♦♦ I keep meaning to blog on a more regular basis and this might help that.

Just a couple things I've caught online or where ever that sparked my interest and maybe yours too, each and every Wednesday.

News that Stussy will be releasing a Beavis and Butt-Head capsule in November featuring tees and sweatshirts. Details can be found on the likes of Freshness Mag but you're here for my opinion right? I loved Beavis and Butt-Head. I am now almost thrity-six and I would be more than happy to show my love of the show, creator Mike Judge and what MTV used to be about (actual music) by wearing something from this release. Course I would like to actually see the designs but I'm sure previews are just around the corner. I do not want to miss out and be all grumpy later, like I was when I missed the Mr Cartoon Spiderman tee in the Marvel collaboration. Pah!

Next up a London showing of "GIRLS ON BIKES" by INSA. I viewed the clips and recaps of the Hong Kong exhibition with much titilation, and now I can throw on a Mac and go see the work first hand (or hairy palm?). It took me some time to be introduced to the works of INSA and honestly (think I finally pieced it all together at a Fly53 do that I missed out on going to coinciding with a magazine drop he did the cover for) I wasn't quite sure where the fascination with his work layed with me. I'll say that I very much like his vision and the way he transforms the things that we desire in the flesh (pun intended) onto canvas, paper, wall and webpage to name just a few (ok four) mediums. I will also say what's not to like about Neon, Shoes, and Butts? (Heh heh heh I said Butts) To keep me in check I will be taking the wife. I hope she's ready to see some interesting bikes. (What? I had no idea the women would be in thongs! No I most certainly did not sniff the seat! Of course I know it's a photograph!)

And finally, you know I'm very much a supporter of getting girls through college so if buying the 2012 Hooters Swimsuit Calendar helps then sign me up! Last Hooters I visited was in Vegas and there is almost no where better to feed a hangover and watch some sport. Hooters I mean, not Las Vegas, that place is HELL on Earth believe me. #nevergoingback Thank you to KarmaloopTV and Antennamag. Now, where my wings at?

BASS FOR YOUR FACE LONDON

"Let me hear you make some noise!"

I'm happy to say that I have tickets for November 9th at Jamm Brixton to see DJ Muggs.

It's a dubstep night and there's a host of other DJs in attendance but all I care about is seeing the big man himself, oh and the little fact that my brother is coming with me. It marks our first night out since he's moved to England and I can't wait to spend some time with him.

Muggs is promoting his new album BASS FOR YOUR FACE and is touring Europe with DJ Q-bert who I would have loved to see also, but alas he is not able to make the date. Rather that be disappointed I am really happy that Muggs was able to find time to sneak this unplanned spot in his schedule.

I've never been to Jamm, and I have never experienced a Dubstep club night. DJ Solo is cursing me out right now!

But having been a fan of Muggs' work since the early 90s I know I'll like what I hear. I applaud him for continuing to expand his repertoires and catalogue, for himself as much as the fans I'm sure. He is a heavyweight in Hip-Hop and this excursion no doubt can be afforded in the eyes of the critics, but the reality is that if you know Muggs then you are already in tune with his ideas no matter where they seem to come from.

I would also like to say a big thank you to Muggs for continuing to rock worlds and keep us all in love with the music. At thirty-five and dipping my ears into the scene for the first time LIVE, I can't say where I'll fit in with the crowd exactly. I'm just grateful for the opportunity given to me. This is what it's all about.

The Number One Chief Rocka

"No it's the shoes." "The shoes?" "It's gotta be the shoes."

I make no bones about it, I grew up dirt poor. Not only that but in an age when some of the most ground breaking sneakers came out. These two facts were not what a teenager wanted to stuck in the middle of. Despite the circumstances I found myself in I fell hard for some sneakers and the love stays with me to this day.

I can honestly say I was never jealous or envious even of the kids at school or at football who rocked some of these. It just wasn't in my nature. If anything I was in silent awe and admiration.

To a degree I'm still poor, but that depends on how you view life. Safe to say I don't have cash money to

live the sneaker head dream.

I got some inspiration when reading a few Complex features from the likes of Frank The Butcher, Gary Warnett and even Diggy Simmonds. I got nothing but respect for Frank, he's a heavyweight in the game and an all round good dude. I was put onto Gary by a good buddy in NJ, and his opinion and thoughts are definitely growing on me. I'm only an E-quantaince with these guys at best and that's ok, I love celeb stalking. And as for Diggy, he's maturing at a fast rate and I gotta hand it to him he has shown some pretty good taste.

So I wanted to compile my own list of favourites. Course I already had it in my head, but I wanted to share. It won't be featuring on Complex any time soon, because really I'm not even considered a sneaker head. Not in the most common use of the term anyway. I don't obssess, camp out or spend hundreds of dollars / pounds on rarities, retros and re-releases. Having said that, I would if I could, so not sure what that says really but enough of that.
My list contains pretty much all my favourites to date. From when I actually started to give a crap and up to the present day. I hope there are some surprises in there for you. Some of these I have had the pleasure of owning, some I've only dreamed about having. And I'll give one honorable mention to the only ever pair I regret having had and lost (and I won't get into the sad fact that I'm not the same size as Danny Boy who left his AJ3s behind after the London gig).

I still enjoy the hunt no matter what. Hours of web browsing, window shopping and just paying my respects when I see these being worn by some lucky jerk.

Troop Cobra II

I remember seeing these in both this and the green camo colourway at school in the early 90s. They were way too bad ass for me at the time, but I knew they were something else and never to be matched again. Heavy as lead and short lived if I remember correctly.

Fila Trailblazer

Like the Troop, these were for the Gs. I played football in a town called Hitchin and only the hard rocks wore these. It was inconceivable that a skinny lil white kid like me would be sporting these. I loved them for the attitude and the red leather really stood out. Real street shit from round my way.

Nike Air Tech Challenge

I remember these originally dropping and who didn't love Andre Agassi? He brought colour, style and a shit load of hair to tennis and it was never the same after him. Meaning it's boring now. Fact. I did own these recently, but just didn't manage to get comfortable with them. Maybe they are best worn on the court. Love the orange plastic hang tag though.

Wu Wear Wallabbees

The 90s were about Wallabees and Kickers, and those damn leather lace tag things. The thing to do was rock as many tags as you could on your shoes or school bag. Kids were boosting them from the shoe stores on the regular. It took so long for the staff to work out just to remove the tags from the display shoes. Ya dummies! I had an aqua blue suede pair of Clarks Wallabees but I will admit to fiending hard for a pair of official Wu Wear Wallabees. Think my brother had a pair, the (Old Dirty) bastard.

Fila Grant Hill

The Wallabee isn't a sneaker, so I am cheating and adding the Grant Hill. I had a pair and don't recall these being all that comfortable but the patent leather band and big Fila logo make it a worthy entry. These really stood out. I don't remember where I bought these or what happened to them. Damn you teen years, alcohol and weed. Oh the things this (previously) wasted mind could have done.

Nike Air Uptempo

I never had a pair of these but know my youngest brother has had a few for sure. All white is the cleanest look, though there have been other colourways. Even now just looking at these makes me think Nike just went crazy. A I R. No shit, look at the bubble unit from the front to the back. Loco.

Puma XR Groundhog Day

I found a pair of these at TK Maxx for under twenty quid and had to have them. From the fur on the toe box and inner lining to the grass photographic print on the side and innersole. Three pairs of laces too. The aesthetic was all over the place, but these shoes were incredibly wearable and comfortable. Price, bizarre looks and comfort. Decent cop.

Adidas ZX 8000

A buddy had these at school and I think I spent every day drooling over how these popped. The OG colourway can't be beat. I've had many chances to own these, but the damn shoe and my foot just do not agree. I find these really very narrow and impossible to half or full size up to any possible way of wearing them. I could look at them all day though, still. Nike Air was the big dog and then the Torsion unit came outta nowhere and was the talk of the playground for a long time.

Nike Air Max 90 wmns

Everyone loves the Infrared, I know that. I managed to cop a re-release this past year. I can tell you they didn't make me feel half as good as having a pair of the AM90s back in the day. The colours of the time were the Green / Grey and Purple / Pink / Grey versions. I wasn't feeling the green as everyone was rocking them, so I went for the women's colourway. To my dismay I can't find any photos of the colour anywhere. Only one other sneaker can match this for comfort, and it's yet to come in the list.

Nike Air 180

When Nike dropped the brand new 180 air unit I went nuts. I don't know why this hasn't been used more. Sure the Barkleys did it more than justice but really that's it. It is a running shoe for sure but every summer I wish I had these to rock with shorts. OG colourway only.

Nike Air Jordan VI

From the tongue to the soles, these were mesmerizing. Not my favourite version of the Jays but a close friend of mine had these and although I never thought of them as a really wearable sneaker, I totally loved the futuristic look and the sick suede. Black and Fire Red only please. Another pair I wouldn't actually buy to wear but I'd happily keep on the mantle.

New Balance 510

Having never had a pair of New Balance before, a good friend and NB lover said I needed to change that. I saw these at Crooked Tongues on sale for like thirty pounds and thought that was fair to give them a try. Worst case I could wear them to work out in or something. Guess what, despite the pink laces and a far sportier look than I'm used to, I love these. They are a great mix of materials, comfortable and I can wear them to the office and even mow the lawn in them. They still turn heads whenever they see daylight. Practical and stylish.

I'd like to think the reason for the AM1's inclusion is obvious. Just look at them. OG colourways of Blue or Red can't be beat. The only sneaker more comfortable than the AM90. Love the lower profile and all round cleanness of them. I had a pair of the recent ACG pack in Blue (copycat OG) and the canvas toe box was the only thing that disappointed me. If I wasn't walking around London five days a week and collecting all types of dirt and grime on my sneaks then these would have been every dayers.

Something of pure beauty and complete insanity all rolled into one. Somehow I managed to have a pair of these and even though I looked like I was wearing moon boots and on crack I adored them. Partly because I got them from my Dad, and partly because I got them on a trip to the USA. I don't know for sure that I was the first to rock them on this island but neither do you so I'm gonna say I was. The Peace Edition deserves three photos. So rad.

Some of you who know me might find this odd because you know I love these. With every re-release and retro version I get a semi and can't stop thinking about them. I spent some crazy money on a pair of the retro White / Fire Red a good few years back and wore them until the soles came away from the leather. Since then they've dropped in a few decent colours and materials (3M, Suede, Patent) but the clincher for me this time was the icy blue soles that won't turn yellow with age. I had to have them. Black w/23. Perfection.

Vans Vault Leather Checkerweave

Numero Uno on my list. Brand loyalty comes into it a bit, but really they are just all rounders. They tick every box. They are classic and yet still sick looking, made with quality leather that melts to your exact foot shape with time, affordable, sturdy, comfortable, wearable in all situations. I got married in a fresh never worn before pair. What other sneaker can you rock in a made to measure three piece black suit in Las Vegas? I never felt more bad ass and dapper at the same time. And let the records show so did Wifey in a pair of brand new white Vans Vault Leather perfed slip ons to go with her wedding dress. We killed the strip.

Adidas Campus 80s House of Pain

My buddy copped these for me in the USA and shipped them over. The anticipation for me was like a junky about to get his next fix. I was jonesin' like crazy. When I got them I desperately wanted to rock them. One thing I hadn't counted on, the Campus 80 is a terrible sneaker. They felt so uncomfortable on and I think I built up the whole situation so much that I couldn't bear to have them and not be able to wear them. Foolishly I sold them before I could clear my head and let my emotions settle. Gutted. The suede was sick, the logo and colours On Point. Damn I miss these.

I want to thank you for sitting through this and sharing my memories. I've listened to Bobo Meets Rhettmatic, Gang Starr and Public Enemy whilst making this post. After the initial CypressJunkies vibe it felt right to jam East Coast hip hop whilst talking sneakers. Weird.
Even with all the ideas already thought up this was harder than I imagined. And I had to cheat to keep it at only fifteen choices, actually using sixteen. So sue me, I already said I got no money. And don't even think about taking my sneaks. Peace.

Red Light Visions

No, not another work trip to Amsterdam.

Instead it was another awesome visit to the International London Tattoo Convention. I already posted up some bits, so I'll just say a few words and leave you to watch the video and see the photos.

I planned to go all out and snap happy, but really it just doesn't seem to be my thing. I got a couple photos and a few poses with people I admire. You really just need to get up off your ass and come to next year's weekend and catch it for yourself.

The weather was glorious. Each year the venue seems to open up space wise a little bit more. The food court was much much better (photo of wifey chomping on a burrito is proof). The merchants stalls are pretty much the same, some nice bits and pieces. With regards to tees, as you'd expect there was Sullen and Rebel 8 all over the place. Footwear of choice for the punters seemed to be Vans, Cons, DMs and surprisingly Nike Air Max 1s. Go figure.

I didn't catch any of the entertainment, nor any Suicide Girls or calendar models. And the only live band I heard sounded sh1t. They can work on that for next year hopefully.

And of course, I got to sit with Chuey and for a longer session that originally planned. He was literally the last artist at the event still working, and I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. I can't say enough good things about this guy, as an artist and a man. Can't wait to see him again.

Now, enjoy the few photos and video clip. I did think about filming more, but you know what, I felt like just enjoying the moment. Maybe next time. Peace.

I often use google searches to come up with my random blog post titles. I have a vague idea in my head then see what I can come up with. Tonight's search has lead me to read about Samuel Smiles. I'm actually quite interested to read his book 'Self Help'.

It's time to get ILL!

erm I meant INKED! Well almost anyway.

Wifey bought the tickets to this years International London Tattoo Convention 2011 (ball ache to type) and we're all set! We'll head over on Friday the 23rd to experience Day One like usual.

It's always good to see the artists arriving (fresh faced and not yet hungover) and getting to say 'Hi' before it gets manic. We expect big things from the stalls and hope to catch some of the entertainment before we head home.

The plan is as usual to take as many photographs as possible, make sure we're in a few of them too as that's usually lacking.

Then once again I'll head over on the Sunday as I have the absolute honour of sitting with Chuey Quintanar. Although I originally planned to go into this sitting with an open mind, something has sparked an idea in my head after all. We'll have to wait and see.

We pray for safe trips in for all the artists, and good weather would be a bonus.

Just when I'm ready to wash my hands of Hip Hop AGAIN, something extraordinary slaps me in the face and brings the love right back. The chin-checker in this instance is Apathy and his latest project "Honkey Kong!".

On the strength of the Peace Connecticut video shown on the Soul Assassins web site I copped the album and I've not been able to get enough ever since.

I'm happy to admit that this album for me is better than Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 by the Beastie Boys. And I f cking love the Beasties, but it just didn't meet any of my expectations. I'm sorry.

Having read many a review I felt this article best says what I would have liked to say -

If you are a fan of hip hop in its truest form, then you will appreciate Apathy’s latest offering, Honkey Kong. Filled with Apathy’s brand of hardcore story telling raps and crazy punch lines as well as guests like Celph Titled, Action Bronson, Xzibit and a few other lyrical heavyweights, Honkey Kong will slap you in the face and make you retire your skinny jeans. With production from Evidence, DJ Premier and Ap himself, this album demands to be played loud and is sure to murder more than a few speakers. My 2 cents in general however - this album provides real substance and is far more relevant a release than recent offerings people have been going wild over. I'm talking about albums like Goblin (really?) and Watch The Throne (more like What the F ck?). Now of course I'm getting older, yet my tastes have not changed all that much. And I'm so very far from being close minded. I believe my understanding of the game to be accurate still and I still like to listen to new sh t. But I know it's not just me that feels we've been force fed nonsense for too long. I'm so tired of the radio, the media, trend, hype and not knowing if the exclusive t-shirt accompanies the artists' latest album, or vice versa.

I'm making my iTouch work it's aging balls off listening to this album, and already Honkey Kong feels like it was made just for people like me. I'd like to elaborate further but to be honest I'm not sure how to put this feeling into words. Something I've not experienced often with Hip Hop records.

I'm just putting this out there - Imagine if we turned mainstream and underground on it's head just for 12 months. We'd be a whole different society I know it. We'd make the world a better place.

It almost goes without saying that Apathy's appreciation and support shown for HFCC makes me love this guy even more. But I wanted to say it anyway. Enjoy the videos.

A couple of brands that were on the edge of my peripheral vision have come into full view of late.

First was Bloodbath™ and their collaboration with the Soul Assassins entitled Soulciety.

And now a brand I've caught glimpses of and kept my mind open to - BLVCK SCVLE with their collaborative effort alongside one of the most in demand artists right now Jun Cha.

Having just viewed the below clip via Vouchmag and in addition to a teaser already blogged by Jun himself entitled BLVSPHEMY I'm definitely eager to see more of the Lux Aeterna collection.

Jun as ever can be trusted to create and execute only the finest ideas and imagery.

Having yet to experience any of the BLVCK SCVLE products in person I can only use what I know of Jun's philosophies and ideals to base my assurances on of the quality of this venture.

What Jun says about the belief, commitment and relevance of the classic religious images in modern life is very astute.

Still so humble despite his already acquired fame, and dare I say growing legend in the tattoo world.

You should know I'm a fan of the 'mash-up' by now. It kinda sucked to read that an artist I respect is tired of hearing that term, especially when he is so AWESOME at creating the best examples of it. I can understand where he's coming from but also I think when done right then there is no end to the joy it can bring.

And I'm not just talking about music. Same principle applies in life with your family, friends, work, everything.

I've been thinking about this topic for a while and trying to figure out what I was trying to say with it. All this stuff makes perfect sense to me in my head, but I try and make it relate to all of you too. We're all kindred spirits and if you think we aren't then you're reading the wrong blog! Hurry! Run!

There is no greater group/band than the Beastie Boys for staying true to themselves whilst delivering a multitude of styles throughout the years. The song 'Gratitude' from the Check Your Head album has been playing in my mind over and over whilst I've collected my thoughts and ideas about this post.

On first listen it can come across as simplistic. Sure it sounds repeatitive to a point and ok even the music and lyrical style doesn't seem to match. What can Ad Rock possibly be saying in just two verses? ♪♪"Good times gone, and you missed them"♪♪. The lyrics are profound and the music deftly layered. And don't get me started on the video... Listen again, and I hope you hear what I hear.

Ok first things first, only in reverse order if you don't mind actually...... today I was thinking about all the things I'd like to change in my life. All of them are what I view as self improvements. All of them steps to becoming closer to God. I won't pretend to you that my relationship with God is a normal one. Far from it. But it's real, and I owe everything to Him. (be honest how many of you have the cursor hovering over the X in the top right corner now?)

I want to thank him for my health, my family, all of His favours and blessings.

This isn't about preaching or converting any of you. It's about me. There's some things I want to do, for example to stop swearing, to compliment and say "thank you" more to those deserving of it, to stop being an asshole just because someone else has been an asshole. These things sound easy right? That's where you're wrong.
And I understand if you have feelings about people who talk about things they wanna do or are fixin'ta do on the WWW and you may even think they just like the attention and hearing themselves type. (<--see what I did there? For the record it sounds like an elephant is trampolining on my keyboard as I hammer out sentences with just three fingers and a thumb)

But I'm asking you to look at it another way. You're here because you give a damn, like it or not. I'm reaching out to my family, friends and peers and asking for your support. And not forgetting that I'm giving you the nod to bring this up in the future, if you've grown weary of lifting me back up when I fall off. Do feel free to insert your boot into my ass and remind me.

I want to do more in the name of the Lord, in His likeness and His name. I don't mean donning a cheap suit, slicking my hair back and climbing up on a stage. (erm growing my beard long maybe?) I mean by treating people with respect, with decency and doing what I believe to be right even in the face of adversity and ridicule. All with a means to being a better Man, Father and Husband. With the goal of raising my children to be the best, most satisfied and happiest human beings that they can be.

Now here is where this links up.

I'm reaching a fairly pivotal point in my career right about now. I've spent the last ten months trying to prove to the company that I'm the Boss. That I have the the ability, the passion and skill to not only do what has to be done but do it with style and exceed expectations. No matter what is asked of me by my superiors, none of it can ever amount to what I ask of myself on a constant basis. It means that much to me right now, and for my future.

I'm finally posting this (when I'm shattered and should be in bed) now because I'm finding work to be extremely difficult and stressful. I'm doing a good job but I have a lot to learn and go through still. You know what come to think of it, it's a source of real ~~PAIN~~ PLEASURE actually. Gotcha there! Ok I do feel that ball of chaos grow in my chest at times, but the cure is the realisation that I have it so damn good. I'm blessed with so much. I'm in control of how I am, and who I choose to be. I work with a good bunch of people, for a Brand I believe in. Not only does it enable us to live the kind of life that makes us happy, I even got to buy those black leather VANS® Zapato Del Barco I've been eyeing for a week! Tell me that isn't amazing.

Sublime spoke nothing but the truth on so much of what they recorded and you can pick and choose a number of lines for instance ♪Life's too short so love the one you've got♪ and ♪Love is, what I've got, remember that♪.

Life is always going to be difficult. Face the challenges with the right attitude (and support) and blast right through to the other side. We all have it in us, and we can surround ourselves with the right souls to achieve anything we want.

Same As It Ever Was

"It's all Hip Hop" - Erik 'Everlast' Schrody

This past week I got to see one of my all time favourites groups perform live. It really was something I thought would never happen. Celebrating twenty years of House of Pain, Everlast and Danny Boy rocked the Scala to great effect.

Minus DJ Lethal (on tour with Limp Bizkit), with a live band and DJ Lego on the tables they kept it old school, with tributes to the lives of those lost to us. (Guru, Nate Dog, Amy Winehouse..)

They brought more than a couple surprises, with West Coast beats and HOP rhymes over the top. Was really messing with my head at times!

To kick off the show, we had an hour set by an unannounced and unnamed DJ. He dropped several bangers, mostly bass heavy and West Coast flavoured, the crowd were really feeling it and warming up for the main event.

Everlast came out to The Shadows' "Apache" playing the famed riff and thoroughly enjoying himself. The man is music. That's evident for all to see. He thanked the crowd multiple times for supporting his journey in his twenty-something years in the business. He gave tribute to the first OG - Johnny Cash. "He was talking about doing coke and killing bitches long before Lil' Wayne" (ref to Cocaine Blues) and then treated us to a version of Folsom Prison Blues. The crowd showed their appreciation and sang along. Real recognizes real, that's all I can say.

At this point, I'd like to say that I am not a House of Pain fan from the UK. One thing that never crossed my mind was just what to expect from the crowd. Standing in line outside the Scala looked a lot like a meeting for White Supremacists. (Un)Fortunately I fit right in, shaved head, beard, tattoos. Then came the shock, all sorts of regional English accents. Doesn't sound all that astonishing maybe, but I can tell you it wasn't at all what I expected. Book, Judge, Cover, It's, By, Don't, A. Re-arrange to make some sense of it all. Mostly it was guys in their late thirties (At one point during the show Ev was wanting the crowd to get more amped, he singled out a guy and realising his error said "Shit that guy is almost 70, he has an excuse but the rest of you get the fuck up!") but there was a mix of younger heads. To my dismay they didn't seem to know much past Jump Around but I just hope they now take the time to get to know the back catalogue.

I took my place at the front of and slightly off center (physically and mentally) of the stage to make sure I was a part of the action. Being able to vibe off the energy is what being so close is all about. And being able to see without my glasses on (hey none of us are getting any younger).

If asked to summarise the entire show, all I would say is it felt like hanging out with my cool older brothers. Not taking anything away from the performance (it has been a long tour) but it was more chill than your average gig and more interactive. The Scala is a great venue for this type of gig. Perfect size for everyone to be right up on the action. Front row is the place to be like I said. I was rollin' solo for the night but never felt alone.

Having looked on the net for other shows, the playlist doesn't seem to have been all that different from the other spots played on this tour. I won't name the songs, apart from the fact I was stoked to hear Who's the Man and Just Another Victim. If you could have your own "Best Of..", it's safe to say the songs chosen were played.

Mid way through Everlast introduced the band, who in turn performed solo routines. Each member killed it. The drummer stole the show to great applause.

Danny spit lyrics viciously and commanded the stage, like we're used to seeing him do it. Both guys looked confident, comfortable and definitely brought the pain to London (I have bruises on my hands and have no idea how I got them).

Another observation, the crowd represented to the fullest in HOP, HFCC and SA gear. I broke out the HFCC x SA tee to great effect. Safe to say necks were broken. And Danny rocked black Air Jordan III cements. We all know his sneaker game is On Point.

At the end of the show, Ev came back out to perform some solo work. "This is like doing overtime. When the boss asks you to do overtime you don't mind it, as long as it's shit you enjoy doing" Well one fucking idiot did mind it and challenged Ev and was all round disrespectful. No security needed, Ev took up the offer and stepped off stage. The guy was unceremoniously dumped to the floor and kicked to the back by the crowd. There's always one in every crowd they say. His ass was saved from a whooping no doubt. If you've not seen the dudes in the flesh, Ev and Danny are larger than life. You do not want any chin checkin', trust me.

That minor blip didn't set Ev back at all and he continued to bless us with his lyrical and guitar skills. It was one of those nights I truly did not want to end. I wanted to be able to live it and share it with all. As the venue emptied I got on Twitter to see if the guys would come back for a photo. As ever they took time out for the fans outside, but I had to get my tired and aching ass back home so missed out on the opportunity. Next time.

I know there are many more things I could say, but instead I'll leave you to look at the photos I managed to take. Got some videos I will link to as well, including Ev's "Apache" guitar work, damn he loves it and so did we!

There was no 'One for the road' for me, being a sober man and all, but definitely they were the "Same motherfuckers that they ever was". Ain't a damn thing changed.

Good Morning America, How are Ya?

This post threatens to go on and on so I will try and keep it to the point, and make the point hopefully clear. Assuming there is a point of course.

For those that don't know, I was born in the ass kicking US of A. The day before my tenth birthday I was brought to the shores of the United Kingdom along with my two younger brothers. And here I have settled, survived and even succeeded far more than could have been predicted.

During this time, it is safe to say there have been ups and downs in my personal life. Hindsight can be a bringer of peace and rest to the soul, if you allow it to be. It can also screw you over, but that's not me. If it happened in 1985, leave it in 1985. Sure, work to understand it, but move on.

A buddy of mine coined the phrase 'Shaped in America' for his company. I found great comfort in that phrase. I've asked the question before "Why after 'X' amount of years away from home am I so fiercely patriotic?". Imagine that question asked over and over again for the last 25 years. The answer always remains the same. I'm an American.

If you're not an American, you just might not understand. Often I'm told "you've lived here long enough now you must consider yourself British". No. Thank you England for putting the challenges in front of me and giving me a chance to become who I am today. And sure I may display some of your traits and habits, but don't ever get it twisted. I'm an American.

This I can say confidence and with much pride. However, I've also had to do a lot of soul searching with regards to what exactly is my identity? How have I been shaped in my time here?

Looking back I've gone through many changes. Some of which have served to nourish my soul, expand my knowledge and allow me to see things from multiple angles. I think of myself as a well rounded person. This is where this post could go on and on. But I'll keep it simple to a point. Let's go musical (no, not Cats).

Music has always been an important part of my life. As a child of the 70s how could it not be? The greatness of the 70s, 80s and 90s there for the enjoyment for those that kept an open mind as well as their ears. And (along with puberty) the music inevitably influences appearance, demeanour and attitude.

From an early age I was into Dire Straits, Queen, Rod Stewart, Paul Young, Huey Lewis and the News, The Stones, The Beatles, Van Halen, Fine Young Cannibals to name just a few (the list goes on and on and I'm sad I can't actually complete it here and now). In my teens I was listening to everything from the Rap to Reggae and all I could find in between. (incl. Ragga, Jungle, Progressive House, Acid, Techno, Dubplate, you name it). This period saw me go through drastic image changes.

It's so obvious looking back, and what amazes me is that no one else seemed to know or maybe even care, that I was in need of support. I needed help. (later drink and drugs became substitutes for this) I was struggling to get by on the little I knew. Sure, I suppose it's easy to fall back on the Teenage Fad phenomenon and shrug your shoulders and say Meh. But then you'd be just shit on the bottom of my shoe in my humble opinion. Being a father, I know it's my responsibility to be involved with my children's lives. To know what's going on in their world. Help them to find and then understand the things around them, to understand themselves, no matter how often things change.

My stand out looks usually involved my hair, and ranged from shoulder length to dreadlocks. From dying it black (red, blue, purple..) to shaving it all off. I wore waist size 36" jeans, Air Jordan knock off tees and jackets, DM 7 hole boots, marijuana leaf neck chains, Moschino shirts, a CZ earring and fake bling watch bought on the internet. Not all at once, that does paint an interesting picture for sure, but span it out over a good 10 years, from say fifteen to twenty-five. This started earlier than that, and ended probably a little later, but I'm trying not to go on.

I remember at age thirteen seeing my father, for what I believe was the last time in person, and I was wearing huge faded jeans (possible Bleu Bolt?) from Camden Market and a reggae coloured t-shirt a good three sizes too big for me. I was also the proud owner of Nike Air Raid with the 'peace' symbol on the straps. Hardly the look of an insecure, scared, skinny white boy trying to be a man.

I remember staying with my grandfather at age eighteen and showing up in similar clothing, shoulder length black hair, fake gold pot leaf chain and demanding all the respect in the world. I couldn't have been more MTV. I don't mean that in a good way either.

With no male role models at my disposal (and driven by the desire to see my brothers grow up normal under my watch), all I had was the music in my life as an influence. It also served as an escape. Look at me, but don't see me. So my looks changed, mixed in the middle, were fun, offensive all at the same time usually. Yet they were never a true reflection of who I was.

This is not auto biography time, I may just get there some day if it's the right thing for me to do. So let's get back to the present.

At thirty-fivemy main appearance is a shaved head, beard, tattoos, almost always wearing jeans (more fitted than previously mentioned), and a leather jacket often completes the look. Add and take bits and pieces inbetween but that about sums it up. I've never been happier with my appearance and personality. Both live in harmony and show a honest reflection of who I am, who I have fought so hard to become. Hmm that's not right. I'm sure this is who I was supposed to be all along. We all have roads to travel, challenges to face. I'm no longer that frightened little boy, raising himself emotionally, hiding from the world whilst simultaneously saying "look at me and do better; be better". I see that now. I'm at peace with that. It makes sense to me. I am now that man I desperately wanted to be. Now I'm saying "be happy, be you, and still by all means do better; be better".

And the music continues to influence me. Add to the list Country, Rock & Roll, Metal, Hip Hop, Dubstep, Punk Rock, Ska...all of these have their place on my iPod and in my life. And thank you again to the people continuing to re-introduce me to the classics, and push forward the new sounds (I'm looking at you Dave!). Thank you to those that I've found strength in growing up, and continue to do so in adult life. Without you I would be half the man, and that's with rounding it up.

If I had to, I would say my love for rock and roll is strongest, and no band moves me more than Jane's Addiction. Though Stone Temple Pilots do try.

Saying that I still gotta whole lot of love (intended Led Zep and House of Pain ref there people) for hip hop. I feel a particular affiliation with the Soul Assassins family. Some eighteen years or so ago some of that Phunky Cypress Hill shit got into my blood (and lungs) and still remains. PS Have I mentioned this Thursday and House of Pain being in London? You sure? Oh ok, once or twice.

I love many bands who have lost their voice but their message lives on. Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Sublime to drop just a couple or three names.

And I will happily sing along to Willie Nelson's version of City of New Orleans and remember my Dad any with a big smile on my face (and a tear in my eye).
And that I believe is a fantastic song to finish on. Go find the lyrics so you can sing along. I'm not gonna do it all for you and if you're anything like the person I think you are you'll feel something inside no matter what your tastes are.

Having not read back through this post, I don't actually know if I got to say what was on my mind and in my heart. I expect I did, it works out that way usually. And if not I expect you'll understand where I was coming from even if I didn't get to where I was originally headed. When I first started this post, I had called it 'Identity Crisis' and wanted to use this picture to portray what this was all about -

For you see, in my eyes that really was me at eighteen years old. When I picked up the album (on double vinyl no less), through the many rotations the cover might as well have been a mirror. Hand on my heart, I wanted to be Ol' Dirty Bastard. I couldn't relate to the stories he was telling, but I had a connection with him all the same. I'm not exactly likening myself to Russell Tyrone Jones, I'm just saying I can see similarities between two wounded souls, and I can vouch for how they can speak to each other.

In light of events this past weekend, I'd like to say Rest in Peace all the artists who have passed and made a positive impact on our lives. No matter what, no one can take away the feelings you have had when listening to music. Music a blessing. Embrace it. Share it. Live it.

3 is the magic number

So I didn't win any part of last weeks £166 Million Euro Millions Jackpot. And yet I still feel as though all my numbers and the bonus ball came up.

In terms of gigs this year I have been blessed with the chance to see three of my all time favourite bands / artists.

First off were Puddle of Mudd in a very intimate venue - Dingwalls. To be fair to them I was expecting a lot. There's not many bands that live and breathe Rock and Roll in the same way as these guys. I hoped they were going to show us that.

Having not seen them play Live before, they did that and more. Wesley displayed great emotion during some of the fans' favourites. TNT was a hit for the London crowd too. I was not disappointed in their energy, execution and they tore the roof off that little shack.

Next up for me will be House of Pain (minus DJ Lethal who I believe is touring with Limp Bizkit). I honestly thought the chance of seeing Danny Boy and Everlast was long gone, especially whilst still living in the UK. And yet they decided for the first time in twenty years to tour again. The European leg of their tour so far has looked to have been a blast. Mixing gigs with festivals, with the likes of Public Enemy no less. Watching updates on Twitter and Facebook from both guys.

My time comes on the 28th at Scala in London. You may have read this a few times, I can't help but be very excited about it. Will be interesting to see what type of crowd shows up, and how Danny and Erik throw down during what's likely to be their last gig in the UK as HOP. All the youtube clips so far have given testimony to their ability to completely rock a Mausoleum, back yard and Colosseum. I hope Scala has been warned.

They say good things come in threes right? Well then a colleague at work (happens to be a music fanatic himself) pointed out that the Greatest Band Ever (my words, not his) were doing a date in London. Also at a familiar to me, very convenient and extremely capable venue - Koko. If I thought I wasn't going to see House of Pain again, then I really can't describe just how slim the chances I'd given myself were to see the life changing sounds of Jane's Addiction.

It's no secret that I love Perry Farrell. The man, the musician, the father. To me, no man encompasses all things magical about music (and lyrics) more so than him. Whether it be with Jane's Addiction or Porno For Pyros. I never got on the Satellite Party train if I'm honest, something was lacking for me in spirit. Perhaps my musical soul was being fulfilled elsewhere at the time I just don't know. And yes I did try and try again. I could have wept at hearing the news they were here, and soon, to promote a new album. The only problem for me was that I'm the only real JA fan that I know of that would want to go. It would not have been a problem going Solo as I am to HOP, but I reached out to my bestest bud Mel and he kindly agreed to come rock out with me. He's good like that! And he may just fall in love with the band himself after this. Mel does indeed have impeccable taste.

So that really is just a brief update and an excuse to post up some photos. I hope to catch some video clips of the next two gigs. No matter what, I will be fulfilled like never before. My soul is aching at the prospect of being in the presence of people that altered my life and helped shape my preferences for many things as an adult.

I will do my best to say Thank You in person to the guys, but should that fail then there's always Twitter and Facebook to stalk them on!

The Boss family has recently returned from some truly outstanding (and desperately needed) R&R in northern France.

We were blessed with great weather and idyllic surroundings. France takes a lot of stick from my fellow patriots, but really you must go and experience for yourself what the country has to offer.

Wifey has the full photo albums on her Facebook, that's her job. My job is to pick just a handful of my favourite snapshots and say something amusing and if possible enlightening on my blog.

Appropriate or not, I've had this song on my mind ever since the idea of this post sparked in my brain -

I guess by "If there's a cure for this, I don't want it, I don't need it" I'm referring to the kids and their apparent (and possibly hereditary) insanity. We love that they are naturally just as goofy and utterly adorable as their parents. We're definitely doing something right. Yeah I blew my own horn there. It's not only Ron J that can do that you know, or perhaps you don't know, and if that's the case trust me you're better off not knowing.

I have absolutely no idea what Pac and S-N-double O-G are talking about. Hmmm.......

What happens in Amsterdam….

So usually you don’t get to hear stories about goings-on in Amsterdam, but this one is ok to share.

Twice a year I have the pleasure of attending department meetings at our HQ in Amsterdam. I can honestly say it’s time well spent with some very wonderful people.

It’s no secret that I love my job, the company, the brand and have immense pride in what I do. Being at HQ only strengthens my feelings for all of these things.

The meetings and presentations we have are pretty intense and can leave you feeling lobotomised at times, however to combat this we are treated to great food, the occasional party and even a surprise Team Building event.

Previous events included a Guided Tour of the Red Light District, which I would highly recommend. For educational purposes of course! Going it alone or with your buddies at night doesn’t even come close to the experience of the tour.

This year the event was a trip around the canals on a private boat, with drink, food and even some herb. During the day the weather was fairly crappy, grey and raining, but right on cue the sun came out and we had great conditions to sail around in.

To finish the night we decided to gate crash the private ‘Beach’ party being held in light of it being Line Opening for the Spring 12 collections (did someone say Disney collaboration?).

Work trips to Amsterdam mean long days of absorbing information and knowledge sharing, and late nights of really kicking back with some of the best people in Europe at what they do.

Enjoy the photos, as ever extremely amateur and without all that much skill. I had a freakin’ blast though and already I’m looking forward to the next meeting in December.

Some late evening observations made whilst standing at Charing Cross station waiting for my train.

People are still wearing boot-cut jeans, without boots. Walking all over 2-3 inches of hem. Why?

There were a lot of people with kids out in London, they didn't seem to be tourists either which would make some level of sense. Why you got your young kids out after 11pm on a week night, or any night?

Couples where one person physically drags the other person behind them. Holding hands romantically is one thing, dragging and near shoulder dislocation is another.

Novelty t-shirts. Still? Obsese man wearing a Mr Greedy t-shirt. Why not just wear a t-shirt with a PENIS on the front?

Drunks. Lots and lots of drunks. Is it really worth it? Tuesday night binge drinking? Wow.

My good friend Mel and I are off to see Mono tonight in Camden.

Mel is a big big fan of theirs, and though I've downloaded and listened to their albums, I've yet to be gripped by their experimental rock and or shoegazing.

I'd personally class their noise as the audio equivalent of a Magic Eye 3D picture you stare at for hours until you see the horse. I don't seem to be able to decipher it yet, maybe the SSRIs are blocking the signals. Dunno. Mel is good at that type of thing however, being of werewolf and E.T. decent and all that.

In my experience the Japanese don't get much wrong (excluding Pearl Harbor and SARS), and I have read that their live performances are intense so that's what I will be expecting.

I expect blood to be pissing from my ears mere seconds into the first track, and feeling like I'm on a bad ass mescaline trip long into tomorrow.

Don't disappoint me Mono!

I'm not going to be taking any photos tonight but I will write a review, to be left in the comments field at some point.

Really big thank you to Mel for the opportunity, and I do of course trust him implicitly to know what's good (excluding the Travelling Horror Shit Show or whatever it was called).

The Challenge

I've had a personally very exciting and rewarding last few weeks. Well not one to dwell too long on that I am moving on. A phrase that has stuck with me for some months now is always my first thought when attempting anything now, Further & Faster. Do read on....

Whilst laying with my son in his bed at 5am this morning I was given ample time to think about the next two weeks. I've not had much success as setting (or achieving) short term goals. Long term is a different story altogether but I feel it important to work at this and see the benefits as far outweighing any cons.

In 2 weeks time I'm off to Amsterdam for another Line Opening and 3 days of meetings. Some might find this as exciting as hammering nails into their eyes. Those people do not work for the company I work for, nor dare I say have as much passion for the job as I do.

I've been working my ass off lately (more so than usual) which has made doing anything else but work very difficult, including exercise. For anyone who knows me and follows my blog they know the importance of exercise in my life and the crushing effect it can have emotionally when I am unable to do it.

In an effort to get myself not only back on track but also in better stead for the future I have given myself a challenge.

For the next 2 weeks, on Mon/Wed/Fri I plan to wake at 5:30 and run for 30 minutes, finishing with a cold shower to start my day. In addition to this I will complete 50 push ups daily. My evenings look pretty clear apart from the 7th and 8th June, so I will use the time when physically able (and when not working late) to follow the Sculpt and Sweat routines from Power90. Failure to do these is the only acceptable failure I will allow.

Allowing failure? Yes and no. Failing and torturing myself would come at a much greater cost. Allowing my body (and mind) sufficient time to recover will be needed during this.

And finally, and what might actually prove the most difficult part of this challenge, no biscuits, cakes or chocolate for 2 weeks. These are to be substituted with fruit. And the pleasure of 1 can of Dr Pepper for lunch Mon-Fri at work. No more turning to Coke Zero for my caffeine fix, exercise and wellbeing will take it's place!

Now I'd like to make something clear, I do not have a problem with any of the things I am abstaining from, but it is wise if I am to benefit as much as possible from my 2 week challenge.

Ok really and now Finally, I wish to rid myself of any negativity, and those that cause it intentionally or non intentionally, and defeat it with being absolutely over joyed and positive to the point of making people want to vomit rainbows and unicorns, and sweat huge beads of adorable kittens chasing balls of yarn.

Whilst thinking this through I have also decided upon some long term goals as well. I will tell of these once I complete my 2 week challenge.

Gumball3000 2011- London

Thursday morning was the official start of the 13th edition of the Gumball3000 rally, and it was happening no more than 10 minutes from where I work, so I blew off the morning and headed over nice and early to check things out.
This was my first personal experience with Gumball3000. I naturally expected insane cars, sexy chicks and a ton of Ballers. I was not disappointed. What I hadn’t counted on was the hands on experience and large fan base that really made the event come alive.
What many probably hadn’t counted on was the stereotypical London weather. Sun, Showers and plenty of Chills. Chills from more than just the shiny cars and ample cleavage and ass cheeks on display.
But no one paid the weather any attention. The crowd happily ebbed and flowed, gazed in awe at the 100+ cars on display and got to see some heroes to top it all off.
Well I’m speaking for myself really. There was no way I was passing up the opportunity to see some of the coolest guys on the planet. Living legends in their fields, and honest to goodness true gentlemen. They may not like that tag, but f ck it they ARE good guys.

I walked around checking out the cars, soaking up the atmosphere and just having a great time. Around 10:30am I decided to find a spot along the starting line. I had a Dr Pepper in my hand and DJ Solo’s Nightmare Before Christmas on my iTouch. You don’t get better prepared than that.
Before long shit started to happen.
from the end of the road, came the one and only David ‘The Hoff’ Hasselhoff, closely followed by token blonde bombshell. To say he loves the limelight doesn’t even begin to….never mind. He’s an entertainer for sure. Crowd pleaser too, and I’m sure if you asked the blonde she’s concur he is something special. You’d have to take her word for it though.
Then Dirty Sanchez boys Matt Pritchard and Lee Dainton made their way in and out of the pub across the street, then cleared the fencing and performed for their adoring fans. Chants of “Lets go f cking mental” rang out. And to think I just recently discovered my roots are from Wales. Oh man.
Amongst the press and crowd suddenly appeared some nutters in fancy dress….ah yes…The Dudesons. Nice lads from Finland so I hear. I have to admit I don’t watch MTV so can’t say I know anything about them. If I had to guess, I’d say they were into performing and documenting on film ingeniously idiotic stunts and pranks. Ok that’s straight from the official programme notes. They too leapt over the fence and camera shutters erupted into life.
Amongst this we got a sight of Gumball3000 founder Maximillian Cooper and his co-pilot Eve.
In the blink of an eye we had more Ballers in the mix including Team Soul Assassins. Estevan was covering the chaos with his camera, smiling, doing his thing. Muggs and Bun B took there place in front of the headlining car (RR wrapped in Camo) for the press shots.
The crowd were buzzing, energy emitting from the drivers and fans alike. And then things calmed down and the show was over. Well not exactly, but for the purpose of the media anyway. The drivers strolled to their vehicles, grabbed a bite to eat, said hello to fans, buddies and fellow Ballers. As cool and calm as you like. I got my opportunity to ask the guys for a photo and they were happy to oblige.
Now I’m not sure how often they have 35 year old men asking for photos and autographs, I kinda hope to have been the first, and they probably hope I was the last. We’ll never know but I’ll keep an eye on Twitter and Facebook for notice of injunctions or restraining orders.
I figured any continued interest would soon cause some concern. So I took a final trip around the Piazza, saw Hoff still lapping up the attention, and set off back to work with a smile on my face and huge sense of having once more been blessed.
My 20 minute trip back to work in a torrential downpour couldn’t dampen my spirits. Though it did soak me to the bone. Shit a small dose of pneumonia was a good trade for the morning I had.
God Speed to all the drivers, much love to the guys in the Chromed Out Cadillac Escalade. Would love to hear what they are listening to in that MONSTER. As I write this I’m bangin’ “Trill OG” not for the first time but with even more admiration.
Enjoy the snaps, especially the one of me Cheesin’ ultra hard in the presence of legends. Shit, when I’m happy you’re gonna see me smiling. I’ve no shame in that.

House of Pain, July 28th @ Scala, London.

I was fortunate enough to catch two thirds of the Soul Assassins crew - Cypress Hill and Funkdoobiest - live back in the day in London. I am sure I have the ticket stub somewhere safe and could give you the exact date, just not right now.

This is huge for me and I can't wait. Dreams do come true.

I'll speak for myself, but there was never any question as to their ability, giving them credibility not often as readily afforded from either Coast. Hip Hop was blessed in the early 90's and none more so than with these peckerwoods.

Raw, confident, and early interviews have shown they were already planning their future. For all the hype over the Irish horns blaring on Jump Around, this was no fad. The group (and the song) had longevity stamped all over them long before their second LP dropped.

When you are as good as they continue to be, it's no fluke, stroke of luck, dance gimmick, clothing line or marketing ploy. It's down to the obvious work they put in, their unwavering passion, their unmistakable Soul. For me, it's simply 'right' and continues to be at the right time too.

Especially when you consider just how much easier it'd be to just to live off of ringtone sales or the easily forgettable club hits that make up the majority of acts in a genre currently saturated by 'rappers' with absolutely nothing to say.

When you're just not feeling Erry body in the club gettin' Tipsy, and Fighting the Power is a bit strong for your tastes, these boys always bring you the real deal. The entire package, wrapped in White, Gold and Green. I wouldn't put it past them to still have their shalalis, so watch your ladies....

I got to meet one of my favourite artists today, Verbal of m-flo/Teriyaki Boyz fame.

He is currently touring the country to promote his first solo album, visionair. He is DJing at a local club tonight.

Now, I am a strong believer of "It's not what you know, it's who you know" and this was certainly what happened today.

I was in town picking up a shirt from Hoods (the local neighborhood store) and popped into Swagger on my way home to catch up with the guys that work there. After getting an early look at the Swagger A/W collection, Yutaka-san casually said "oh, Verbal's next door. You wanna meet him?". I have been a big fan of Verbal throughout his career from m-flo trough to the Teriyaki Boyz and now onto his solo career. Of course, I said yes.

Verbal spent many years living in America so his English is perfect and we had a good chat about Ambush, his clothing and jewellery brand and about Hypebeast (he has a blog on the site). I also got to meet his beautiful wife Yoon who is Korean-American and was also really nice. We spoke to each other for quite a while, covering subjects from living in Japan to Osama Bin Laden lol

I always worry about meeting people that I am such a fan of as I don't want them to turn out to be dicks or something, but these 2 came across as genuinely nice people. I am happy to say that I am still a fan, maybe even more so than before!

Disclaimer: Yes, I know I look like a complete dork in the picture with Yoon but I was confused about what kinda face to pull, unlike in the Verbal pic where my "Angry Gaijin" face was an obvious choice :)

Friday April 29th marked the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton. An event that I could hardly wait to avoid at whatever cost. I just didn't see the attraction. Sure I've followed the Princes growing up and have been interested in their careers in the British Armed Forces. I put that down to a generation thing, and because it seems to me that both William and Harry are down to earth guys doing what we'd all like to think we'd do in their position.

I have got to admit it took all of maybe 30 seconds watching events unfold on the TV and I was hooked. I loved watching it all play out, and I felt genuine happiness for the couple. The entire wedding served to prove that this country, and indeed the monarchy, has something to offer not only it's people, but even the World. The Royal Family stood up today and did itself proud, to all the nay sayers, moaners and whingers I ask when were you last proud of something GREAT Britain has done or achieved? (You need to get past 1966, seriously....) Military action and continued Allied support aside, this is going to take some beating.

As an American I think I'm supposed to fantasize about the Royals (not like that you freaks) and fairytale weddings from England. I don't. Wait, at least I didn't. Kate looked beautiful, and Big Willy stood tall, composed and dare I say handsome throughout. There is no way the emotions and genuine happiness the couple portrayed could be anything but from the heart. I respect that. We need more of that in our local communities and on a global scale too. Imagine the possibilities.

My son will be starting school this coming September at St. Paul's CEP School.

This is outstanding and we have been very blessed. It is notoriously difficult to get into this school, and our prayers were answered.

St Paul's CEP School is now in the top 100 performing primary schools in England and 4th in Kent.

As for swagger, how's this for uniform -

I've had the absolute pleasure of being introduced to a wonderful artist from Denmark, Camilla Lehn.

She's kindly agreed to a little Q&A so we can all get to know her a little bit better. Read on!

B>Tell us a little bit about Camilla Lehn, the artist and creator of Strings.

CL>Born and raised in Denmark. I have always been fascinated by creativity. Even though I love fashion and is fascinated by design, I do not see myself as a slave to the latest trends… I tend to go with my own style and I love to leave people with a quirky impression (them not being able to figure me out :). You never know where I´m at :)

B>When did u first think of the concept for Strings. What sort of reception did they get?

CL>I started out buying some leather string and actually just tried knitting it… I took parts of my grandmother’s old jewelry or other stuff I could find in my jewelry shrine and implemented it into my bracelets to add the personality.

These kinds of bracelets became very popular amongst my friends and encouraged me to look for new ideas.

B>Tell us a little about the materials used and process behind making Strings.

CL>I do all the work myself - from picking only the best leathers and other materials, to tying each bracelet together by hand. The look and feel of each bracelet is very important to me and I like the fact that I can customize bracelets and personalize the designs if required.

And that´s actually what I like the most about the skull bracelets…

B>Speaking of the Skulls (my favourite!), what was the inspiration behind them?

CL>They surprise people and leave them unable to quite figure out what’s behind the idea or the person wearing them. Some people think it´s all about tattoos and the biking environment.. Not for me! I don´t have a single tattoo and I have never ridden a motorbike :) Not that I mind either of it though. Individuality is the best!
For a while I had been looking for edgy jewelry to combine with the sometimes too feminine clothes, but found none. Yes there were a lot of knitted bracelets to be found and yes there were a lot of taggy jewelry with skulls, but none that appealed to me.

My mantra is: Memento mori ("Remember your mortality"). The skulls remind me to live my life with focus and appreciation of all the pretty, loving, fascinating and positive people and things surrounding me…. While I have them.

B>Currently Strings are sold exclusively in Denmark and via just the one boutique I believe, can we expect Strings to be more readily available in select stores and online?

CL>I like the fact that my designs are not sold in a lot of shops – that it is not "common property". This must not be understood as me being snobbish – just the fact that I like to keep it personal and be able to keep track with orders and stick with the handcrafted version.

People find their way to the one boutique and to my web because they really want it I guess. Word gets around somehow! I love it! Webshop… I honestly cannot make my mind up… As for now I kind of like the pace of my little project and the quirky way that the word is spread around the world! He he :)

B>Can you tell me which other jewellers and boutiques you are a fan of?

CL>I tend not to look at what others do and just stick to my own ideas. The thought of being “slave” of what’s “fashionable right” does not appeal to me :)

B>What's the plan for Strings in 2011?

CL>Latest the skulls which have become very popular amongst celebrities here in DK and even people from abroad :). First orders have been shipped to Norway, England, Belgium and US!

B>And finally for now, can we expect a visit to the London any time soon?

CL>I will be visiting London from April 20 to 23rd.

Random blog titles FTW!

So this is a mixed and yet completey related post. It is NOT however anything to do with The Fonz.

I spent a lot of yesterday afternoon in a real RAGE, just feeling grumpy and like I wanted to take it out on someone, anyone.

What made it far worse was there was no reason behind it, and to add to it I was even more upset at having become upset for no reason, and not being able to shake it off. Compounding the problem I think it's called. In any case it was bad, bad for my mental health and possibly bad for some poor soul's physical health.

I knew I had a remedy, a band-aid®, something to make the rage go away, even if only temporarily.

So I headed home with this in mind, knowing a change was coming. And promptly got stuck in traffic for 30 mins. Great. Now I was gonna be late getting home to get the kids bathed and ready for bed. Not that it's ever a problem, they have the world's greatest Granny and wouldn't even notice to be honest. But for me it's acutely annoying.

In the 45 mins it took to talk, bathe, brush teeth, tuck in and cuddle the kids I was the personification of 'alright'. No signs of homicidal thoughts or doom and gloom. Daddy was taking care of business. I love my kids and they get the best of me as often as is humanly possible. Even when I'm not feeling all that human.

All tucked up and after a few stalling tactics, of which they are well trained and highly skilled at, it was grey clouds again for me. Ok. Time to change. Not Superman in a phone booth way, but still into a uniform of sorts.

I donned shorts and my Nike® Airs and set off. Cold, drizzly, dark, what better setting could you ask for. When I run, I take each step as a small victory. When I run I give thanks for all that is good in my life. From the small to the big. Just the ability and time needed to run is a gift, a blessing. I am thankful for that. To say it's spiritual for me is an understatement. I try and attend my own 'church' as often as possible, not just restrict it to a Sunday in a fixed location.

Music - DJ Craze vs. The Beat Junkies "KBPS". A very mellow mixtape(MP3) that allows the mind to wander off, leaving the body to do what it has to. One step at a time. No distractions. Forward, ever forward. Half way into my run I was beyond philisophical, I was understanding myself in new ways and appreciating all that was available to me.

At the half way mark I was human again. Not by any means average either, totally awesome wicked rad again. Me. The Boss.

As I head back retracing my route I was thinking "How can I let the people know of this transformation? How can I give them access to the wonders I have seen?" I mulled over doing a VIDiary, but ruled it out fairly quickly. I'm a man of 'typed' words, not spoken. So here it is. And if you follow me then you know I gotta make it entertaining so i kind of summed it all up as this -

If I don't run, I'm likely to kill somebody. For all you crazies out there, stop beating yourself, stop beating your wife and kids. Lace up your < *enter footwear brand of choice here* > and get out there and BEAT THE STREET. Just Do It©, because if you don't, on my next run I might just find my way to where you live and do the beating myself.

And guess what? That's not even the end of it. There was a BIG FAT cherry on top of this cake. I got home to a Tweet from a GREAT MAN, and have a date set in September for a meet-up and session under the needle.

So much to look forward to, and it's not lost on me, sometimes it's just hard to get the chemical balance right. But I have the antidote, and now so do you. I hope it works as well for you as it does me. Give it a try, at the very least you get super fit and healthy and can go topless in the summer, perhaps show off that ink you got?

Last night I had cassettes on my mind. Do you even remember what those were? *Click on the track below whilst you read*

Bought. Self made. Mixtapes, break-up tapes, make-up tapes. Albums and singles. From local independents like F.L. Moore Records or majors like Our Price.

In 1985 I got my first album on cassette (mentioned in previous blog post) Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits.

In 1995 I was still recording radio shows (Colin Dale, David Rodigan to name just two) onto cassettes.

By 2005 the vast majority of my cassette collection was in a box in the garage destined for a land fill somewhere.

When you think about it the cassette was a technological masterpiece. Small, portable, easy to store, could hold albums, singles and even computer games. Best of all they were easily repairable with some Sellotape™. And yet after 20 years of my life they are already discontinued.

We would struggle to find anything to play the very few we've kept on. Makes me wish we had a Walkman™ somewhere for nostalgic purposes. I certainly do not advocate hoarding, quite the opposite in fact. However once in a while I do wish I'd had the notion and somewhere to keep a thing or two for the future.

The Big One

So, it's been kinda crazy here the last 18hrs.

Its still kinda crazy actually.

Thankfully we were not affected much in Nagoya. We are about 300km west of Tokyo. There was a really big and long shake followed but lots of little aftershocks but no damage and everyone I know is safe and well.

Initially my day continued on as normal. I went to an award ceremony to collect a prize I won for a photo I took. My mate and I then headed to a friends house where we watched the TV and started to realise how big this actually was. That was when I phoned my parents to let them know we were all ok.

Of course every tv channel was been covering the disaster and we all we could do was watch as the news of more people found dead came in. The number is around 1000 people now but that is likely to rise as the clean up continues.

The initial quake actually killed very few people despite its size. This is mainly thanks to Japan being probably the most prepared country in the world when it comes to earthquakes. Unfortunately, the tsunami that was created by the quake is almost impossible to protect against and this has claimed most of the lives lost. There has also been a huge fire caused by the quake in the northern region of Japan.

It's kinda crazy to think this is happening only a few 100 miles away from me and I count myself truly grateful that my family and friends are all safe.

I have been quite moved by all the messages I have received from friends on facebook and twitter and all the people back in England that called my parents to enquire how we were. It is hugely appreciated.

Serious post time. From the soul.

Or sole? Whichever suits. Get it? Reference to apparel and footwear, like, fashion related articles....am I trying to hard? I don't care.

It's 2011 and it's apparent that things have changed. Look around you. People want something not just different, but something more. Even as we edged towards the end of 2010 already there was a shift in consumer demand and trend.

If I were a mathematician this is how I'd attempt to present my case to you the learned people -

Heritage > Hype
Quality > Limited Quantity
Hand Crafted > Factory Line

Some of this is hypocritical coming from me considering my employer and my brand loyalty. The fact is, and this is NOT lost on me by any means, the majority of brands use the same factories, the same materials, the same fabric content, and it's the same machinery and human hands assembling what you see on the shelves and rails. That's business, that's fact.

"Hello? You'd like to complain about the state of your (enter literally any item here) because it has come out of the wash a certain way, or has worn out after 12 months solid wear? Listen, it's cotton. It's what happens to the material. It has a shelf life, as does EVERYTHING. A cotton Oxford shirt is always a cotton Oxford shirt no matter the logo or price tag. Check the fabric content."

And I'm also guilty of frivolous spending on sub-standard products - want an example? The Stussy Limited Edition Chronometer watch, only four sold in Europe. I had one. Whoopee. It was garbage.
That fortunately was my last big spend on something lacking any real quality. I replaced it with a Hamilton Khaki King Scuba Automatic, bottom end of the 'luxury' watch world but oh what difference. The brand's heritage spoke to me first, then the quality of the movement and of course the classic styling. It's beautiful.

If I don't list the following I'll be upset with myself. Add these to my list of pure quality - Dr Martens 'Manton' boot. Abington Gortex Hiker boot. And something that I'm going to do justice with by giving it the post and time it deserves on it's own very soon, the brand that is STRINGS by Camilla Lehn. If you don't know, you will. Oh trust me you will.

Ahhhh ok now I feel vindicated.

The trick is how you capture some one's interest and keep them coming back. For me it's all in the details. More so than the service, the price point, even whether or not the brand is thought of as being desirable.

Brands will still be able to maintain their fan base, and that's good. However the move has been more towards mixing styles and brands, aesthetics over a perceived lifestyle or cult(ish) following.

Prime example - A Bathing Ape 5 years ago > A Bathing Ape now. Too soon? Please accept my sincere apologies Tomoaki Nagao.

I too was once a mammal prone to lining up for hours on the cold and wet side street of London for a Swarovski garnished full zipped hooded sweat. My heavily pregnant wife even copped a 3rd gen Shark after lining up for about 3 hours *coughRE-SELLcough*. It was fun. It was being a part of something that originated somewhere far away, an idea that was executed so well that it sparked off a culture (to which if my understanding is correct still remains in Japan).

We were of the few who had been chosen to bask in the glory of extremely high priced and let's be honest ill fitting street wear that had been given the seal of approval by the likes of Biggie Smalls, Mike D, Ian Brown, James Lavelle and shit even Robin Williams was snapped sporting Bape!
Then here's where it started to get messed up, can you say bandwagon? I'm talking to you Jermaine Dupri, Souljah Boi, Lil' Wayne et al. Even drafting in Pharrell, Kanye, Kid Cudi and other 'popular' artists couldn't fix things.

From a reported £300 Million net worth to being bought for just £3 Million in such a short space of time. How? I don't for a second believe it was bad business decisions. On the contrary, the decision to open stores in the USA (R.I.P. Bape LA) and even online was genius, albeit quite possibly also an attempt to cash in before the ship went under.
For me the fairy tale had ended. The bubble burst. Everyone now had access, everyone had money and who in their right mind was gonna say no to a pocket full of dough in order to keep the exclusive dream alive? No one, not even Nigo.

I kind of swerved heavily on this post, I never intended to preach on Bape but it's fresh in the memory and fits what I'm trying to say.

There are a growing number of brands and products out there that are worth every hard earned penny you are being asked to spend on them. Search and you shall find. I don't want to spoil that sense of achievement for you when you stumble across exactly the e-tailer(s) you were looking for. But I will leave you with this advanced warning, and it is a warning because this is going to knock your Happy Socks off.

2011, the year of the rabbit? Not for me. I choose instead the cow. No not Cravendale. Pay attention will you, and for f ck sake turn the TV off once in a while and read a book or something. Box eyed zombie.

Run by good people with an admirable game plan, sign up now and wait patiently with baited breath, I am.

I want to start of my February posts with something humorous.

This story is 100% genuine, about the only thing that is with regards to this actually. Hope you like.

I picked up an email at work this week. Was from an end consumer with an enquiry about the authenticity of a watch she owns. I had to look several times to be certain......................like hell did I.

I could have told her with absolute certainty that the shit was off, with my eyes closed.

Tell me what you think. And if you DO think it is authentic, which brand made this hideous monstrosity?

You really don't have to be an expert to give advise on this. My 2 year old Daughter could have advised. Even if all she said was "Want Peppa Pig on" it would ring truer than whatever this watch claims to be.

Beggars can't be choosers

On my walk to the office this morning I was stopped by a beggar. He offered me a free magazine handout and told me of his hope to secure a night in a hostel for his lady friend (Stood some distance away and much younger than him I might add) and himself. Wanting to spare him from having to carry on with his story I admitted that I had no money. He misunderstood (I think) and said all he wanted was £18.
"I really am sorry but I don't have any money" I replied. Un-deterred he semi-politely pointed out the nearest cash machine. "No I'm sorry but I don't have any money" I said with a weary smile.
He then attempted to usher me towards the cash machine and through gritted teeth murmured "£18 means more to me than it does you. It means somewhere to sleep, what does it mean to you?" "hmm well maybe a blowjob from your lady friend?" is something I would never have stooped so low as to say.
I like to think I'm generous and giving and sympathetic to people's plights but this just wasn't going to end in his favour.
Had he any change in his pocket he'd literally have had more money than me at that moment.
I'm on my way to work for 8+ hours to feed, clothe and put a roof over my family. Regardless of any frivolous spending I may be guilty of i couldn't help this guy today.
I don't imagine I'll see him ever again. Was he even real? No one else spoke to him before me. He even quipped "Why is no one stopping, is it my beard?" which was pretty gnarly actually.
So was he my conscious trying to tell me something? Or just someone who made his choices and now seeks help to deal with the repercussions?
I'm sure neither is correct actually but I felt compelled to share the story and maybe enable you to be prepared should an older man in a leather biker's jacket with a gnarly salt & pepper coloured beard try and take you by the hand to the nearest cash machine.
I do hope he got enough to stay the night in a hostel, and maybe even a blowjob from his lady friend. Goodnight. - Bossman

Recap, or is it?

I thought about a recap on 2010, then realised I have almost no recollection from all the months that have passed, so let's not go there.

Blogging has taken a back seat for me in the last month. Work has become very hectic, lots of new responsibilities, training and meetings. It's exactly what I signed up for so I'm not complaining. Just learning how to adapt and adjust so I can continue to do the things I love outside of the office. It is my intention to make necessary changes and really to become something of a great force within the company. Not just for myself, but the team I have been blessed with and anyone else who wishes to come on board. This has been viewed as 'ruffling some feathers'. So be it. Some times a good plucking is what's needed to take things forward!

This year my family did lose two beloved members. Maxine Joy Boswell, and Robert Gordon Boswell. I really couldn't have asked for better grandparents. Joy was the embodiment of Love and understanding. Bob was a believer in family who saw through the BS, and a great role model for his grandchildren. Both meant so much more to me than even I can fathom at this moment in time. I hope to someday fully realise just how their love and encouragement shaped me and kept me going no matter what the obstacles. The pure heart always knows even when the flawed mind struggles to accept.

Off the top of my head, stand out moments; My daughter turned 2. She is growing at phenomenal speed. Her ever increasing intellect, humour and complete love make me so proud. And she is following in her big brother's footsteps. My son just turned 4. He's a real little man. He's finding out about emotions and soaking up all the knowledge the world is offering to him. My aim is to ensure Love is abundant in our home and the kids are encouraged to be happy and enjoy whatever it is they choose to. So for now that's Peppa Pig and Monster Trucks! I couldn't begin to think of anything better than that!

My wife continues to surprise, support and strengthen me. My wish is to be able to offer something even a tiny bit close to what she gives me every single day. She'll modestly say it's nothing and that I give her what she needs, but there is always room for improvement. She's been a real inspiration having taken on and achieved something very commendable in the past 3 months, and I hope to find the courage and endurance she has shown in my own life changing plan for 2011.

My brothers continue to be my sources of knowledge and vision. My go to guys when things are both up and down. I can't possibly explain what they mean to me on here, I could never do the feelings the justice with mere words. We always are available for each other and never finish a talk or email without saying I love you.

If asked I would probably say that I do not have all that many friends. That would be grossly unfair to those that I've shared experiences, good and bad times with. The problem for me is perhaps the definition of a friend. More than that my part that is to be played in such a relationship. I wish to be a blessing to people, and I have people close to me that are indeed just that to both myself and my family. I hope to further strengthen what we have for the future. Facebook was something I really tried to avoid. However I can safely say that it has been a wonderful tool in bringing together the people I need in my life. So now I cannot possible say I have few friends, I have them in abundance and strive to be a good friend to them also.

Looking forward to 2011. My wish is for my family to stay healthy and continue to love and grow. I have a good ten months of solid work to put in at the office, at the end of which who knows what will happen. I will be celebrating my 5th wedding anniversary at the end of January. I hope to make the best use of time with loved ones that I can. I hope to never lose sight of what is important to me and my family. I plan to stay in the best of health, through physical fitness, diet and also spiritually. And I will endeavour to blog more and more. I enjoy the blogs I keep up with so much, and hope to be a page in cyberspace that people want to turn to and find entertaining.

So here's to all of you, may you find that all of your hard work and humanity take you higher and bring blessings beyond what you could ever imagine.

Very good question and one I'm sure so many of you are asking yourselves......or not. Truth is I speak to lots of you often, and update FB quite a bit, so really you know what's been happening with me.

But this is my forum to make things that little bit more interesting, to present things in a way that's different to what you have already seen or heard.

So let's try and do that.

Since my last post, I've certainly been busy. But right at the start I got to have a catch up with an old friend, meet a new friend, and grab some much needed R&R.

I'd like to blog these things individually and add a couple snap shots if I may. This post is really to say I'm still here and checking in on all the blogs I'm a follower of, and to say don't give up on me.

In 34 years I hadn't heard that said, and now I've said it a dozen times in a week.

I recall it being a Tuesday in early September, a particualrly torrid one to be more precise, that I thought I'd better check my hotmail and see how much junk there was to delete.
I love the little message they give you "Wow your mailbox is clean!" or some shit once you've deleted all the Russian Brides / Nigerian Billionaires / Cheap Viagra scams. A little bit of OCD goes a long way it would seem. Kudos to you Microsoft.

So I see sitting right on top an email with the subject of "New Balance Pub Pack Competition". Hmmm another 'better luck next time but keep following us' email?

Worth a look I thought. Only I was wrong, because the email started with -

Dear Paul,

Bastard! My shoulders sagged, I reached for the Delete key and that impending "Wow.." message but then saw a little more beneath -

Congratulations - you're the winner of our New Balance Pub Pack competition!

What was this? I've won?! Holy shitballs! Wait, who is this Paul and am I stealing his prize, I mean, AM I? Hmmmmm, no no I can't. Or can I.....? No!

But this story has a happy ending people! Just a quick email later and all was clear, I had won! Cue girlie screaming of "I won! I never won anything before in my life!" just ask my co-worker Farah. You better believe she heard that repeated a dozen or so times over the following 2 hours.

And the very next day a package was hand delivered to my office!

I have to thank Canoe Inc for much more than the prize itself, which without a doubt is insanely awesome, but they also took the revolver away from my temple with this glorious email. I was a winner. Fuck the petty complaints on the phone, the mind numbing meetings, the vast ocean of work I was drowning in and check out Paul with the biggest bollocks on the block! Wait, who is Paul? Never mind....

I follow a very small number of blogs, only those that really capture my interest and ones I can associate with. I enter most of the comps offered as they are usually for something rad and outside the comfort / availability zone associated with some competitions you see in the main stream. So this has just been a great experience all round for me.

Now the question is what to do with the pack? (Answers on a beer mat to...)

I'm well known as a Rock'er and not a Stock'er when it comes to sneaks. My only regret to this rule is selling a pair of the Concepts x House of Pain x Adidas Campus 80s from St Paddy's Day 2009 (one thousand thank you's to Adam for the hook-up). I miss those shits so bad. The Campus just doesn't suit me, but the sneaker should have been dear enough to my heart to never let go of. Since 91/92 I've loved the Soul Assassins - HOP, Cypress Hill and Funkdoobiest. Damn what have I done.

Right now I'm looking to keep these in mint condition, and safe away from 2 toddlers' grubby curious and often damaging hands. I don't know if my son will venture into Fashion like his Daddy, but should he want to it'd be nice to have a few gems for him. Plus, my hatred for ebay and lowball ignorant asshole buyers pretty much seals the deal.

There are somethings that are just more valueable than a quick buck, or should that be pound? No, paaaaaaand! That's it.

The Red Lion pack is perfectly executed. The shoes are made in a buttery red leather, with suede trimmings. Easily the hottest of the 3 pack. The attention to detail is spot on. A far better description can be found HERE from the guys at Canoe Inc. They went with the pub garden summer-time theme, I've opted for the seedy, old school, dark and despressing, sticky floor, decades of cigarette smoke and piss fragranced pub theme. As a new member of teetoltalism it made me smile.

The Texas Tornado. The Modern Day Warrior. He brought us the Iron Claw. The one, the only, Kerry Von Erich.

The Von Erichs are the most famous family of wrestlers from Texas. I used to love watching these guys, and even caught an live event as a youngster. I remember this sh t in black and white, so it had to be very early in my childhood.

I spent many a Friday night in front of the TV and on the sofa bed, wrestling for the title as my hero The Texas Tornado. Often against my toddler brothers and cousins. I had a 5 year start how could I not win and retain the title right?

Sadly his personal life ended in tragedy. Kerry committed suicide by shooting himself with a 9 millimeter handgun in the chest, at his father's ranch in Denton, Texas, on February 18, 1993. Kerry drove a Jeep over a steep embankment at the time he shot himself.

R.I.P. Kerry Gene Adkisson (February 3, 1960 – February 18, 1993).

I think the UK got this album in 85 so I must have been 8 or 9 when I got it, on a clear plastic cassette tape, and I played it all the time on my Walkman™

I was brought up around lots of music, LPs and live performances. For that I am eternally grateful.

It's no secret that I am down on Theo Walcott. I don't feel he has lived up to his potential but Wenger still sees something in him so I repsect that much. Still, if we got a £10 Million offer I'd not hesitate.

Today he got his first hat-trick for Arsenal, albeit against a mostly 10 man Blackpool. Still, he made the difference by actually finishing in front of goal. I'll take that away from this game, and he of course takes the match ball.

I'm running behind, what with all the Kelly Brook nakedness that's happening at the moment. Yes I just bought the Playboy with her in it. No it's not as awesome as I'd hoped. But she is still lovely.

So I'm going to bend the rules once again and feature four favourite arcade games from my early childhood. So many days playing Q-Bert and Frogger usually at the gas station.

And some very special nights watching my Dad and his band whilst rooted to the Dig Dug or Miss Pac Man table. Great Rock & Roll, hot old school bar maids, a sweet cherry in every glass of Coke, and quarters all night long. I miss those nights.

So the theme of the blog for the next week is going to be childhood memories.

No not the kind I speak to my therapist about, I don't have funny anicdotes or photos for those events, but I have some cool ideas and I hope you'll like them.

These are in absolutely no order, but my brain is buzzing which makes me happy that I have so much to remember to make me smile.

Let's start with cheating a little bit by having two things, but they featured heavily together back in the dizzle so that's my get out clause.

It just didn't get much better for a young boy than the Transformers. And to have these guys doing battle on Earth or Cybertron was a dream come true.

I could have chosen so many charaters from the show (ok let's be real the toy collection), but there was nothing like the mighty Dinobots & Constructicons!!

As usual lingerie brand Agent Provocateur finds interesting and innovative ways of promoting their new collections. Last season we have seen a great short film, for Fall/Winter 2010 they present the Private Tapes series of videos. It is a nice idea, as usually you would not want a private tape to be leaked on the Internet. The films were shot by music video director Johan Renck, who also previously worked with Beyoncé.
