"Whatchu' Talkin' 'Bout Wednesday" - Ryan Gattis

Image
The tagline for this blog - " Life Is About Meeting People, Connecting And Making Things Happen" - is demonstrated nicely in this post.  Next week my buddy Mel and I are heading to the British Library to listen to author  Ryan Gattis discuss LA, noir fiction and street gangs with Jake Kerridge , crime fiction critic for the Daily Telegraph .  Coincidentally, Ryan embodies the saying "You can't judge a book by it's cover." At first glance he looks every bit the midwest raised book nerd when donning a sweater vest, tie and glasses (see photo above). And yet behind this safe (no pun intended) exterior is an intriguing life story. Indeed, beneath this exterior is an arresting story itself with regards to his tattoos. All of this can be read on his bio " MORE INFORMATION THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED ". I implore you to read that before you carry on with my post. I met Ryan in May of last year in London's Bethnal Green at an event put togeth...

Tricky Presents Skilled Mechanics - "Diving Away"

Image
Heard the first track off of Tricky's new project Skilled Mechanics today and immediately knew it was a cover of Porpoise Head by Porno For Pyros. There's a great story behind why he chose it - Tricky explains: “I toured with them in Australia in 1996. My daughter Mazy, who was about four years of age, was with us and she had frontman Perry Farrell wrapped round her little finger. He took all of us to Sealand in Australia. So there was me and Porno For Pyros all trying to get her pram onto the Australian metro. But how many big artists would do something beautiful like that? I think it speaks volumes about him. So I’ve got a lot of love for Perry Farrell and I’ve always wanted to cover one of his songs.” As we wait for the album it's a great excuse to listen to his back catalogue, and in particular for me the Juxtapose album featuring DJ Muggs. There's every chance working with Tricky encouraged Muggs into making the Dust album a few years later. The fusion ...

"The theory or attitude that physical well-being and worldly possessions constitute the greatest good and highest value in life."  Nothing deep or revealing in this post, just a filler. I was asked today if I was wearing a Rolex. I laughed it off of course, but it just goes to show you can spot class from 100 yards away (thanks to my   Hamilton King Khaki Scuba   automatic). It also shows I have pretty awesome taste, in both watches and people I have conversations with. I'm writing the final part of the   Tattoo-thousand and 12   trilogy, but not even close to finishing so in the mean time I wanted to share some of the things that have kept my brain synapses firing this past couple of weeks. Before I do though, I am very happy to say I am booked in at   Aching Soul   this coming Friday for more work on my Eagle/Sunset, and then at   Spear Tattoo   on July 4th to finish my dedication to Porno for Pyros.   First up is this leather jacket...

Cursed Male / Cursed Female

If you didn't already know of my love for rock & roll, tattoos and my wife then just leave. Go. Get out of here now. We took a day off work to spend some quality time together, at the always impressive Immortal Ink studio in Chelmsford. My wife has spent many an hour there under the awesome needle of Lianne Moule, and today we were both the canvas for her equally amazing sister Leah Moule. Tattoo TV says of Leah - Ms. Moule is a custom tattooist with a very strong signature style and a love of bright colour, new school and neo old school pieces.   Leah is owner of Spear Tattoo studio in Birmingham. She does guest spots at Immortal Ink, usually around the time of the Essex Tattoo Expo, and we saw our chance to get on the table. I've spent quite a long time thinking about this piece, the idea has stuck with me and never waned. I hadn't quite put together how it would be translated onto my skin though. Knowing my wife was having her rib piece started by Leah ...

This is (not) Tumblr Thursday

Image
I don't really understand Tumblr. I've seen some good pages, but most look like a giant mess to me. I'm sure I thought the same of Facebook and Twitter at first. There's only so much use of networking and social media sites this man can take advantage of...... however......... .....for one time only, this is (not) Tumblr Thursday! My take on posting up images and videos that have sparked my interest of late. Big shout and love once again for the homies over at www.soulassassins.com for the following links to these videos on youtube. Hope you enjoy my take of vomiting randomness onto a webpage, like that's not what I do with every post on here right? It's been a long week, looking forward to the weekend. Peace. -Bossman75
