"Whatchu' Talkin' 'Bout Wednesday" - MarkJohnsonPrintShop

1992-94 Arsenal Home X 1991-93 Away Kit Print Mark Johnson has released a series of limited prints showcasing some of the most iconic English club kits from the eighties, nineties and early noughties.  A time when the kits were baggy and loud, a perfect example being the Arsenal away shirt dubbed the bruised banana.  It's a very pleasing trip down memory lane regardless of what team you support. There are so many jokes and memes about being an Arsenal fan I wouldn't even know where to begin. The fans appear to be divided, Wenger In or Wenger Out? I wonder how much is the media sensationalising the views of a minority of dissenters, but it's something Arsenal TV is only exacerbating to be honest. Still, this isnt about the club itself, it's about this quite brilliant handmade piece of nostalgia that harks back to happier times.   A time when the Arsenal were the first team to win the English domestic cup double, and the first club to bring back a Europea

ALIFE® "HOUSE OF PAIN" HOODIE

Coinciding with this years St Patrick's Day and celebrating 25 years since the release of 'Jump Around', New York street-wear purveyor and hip-hop aficionados Alife have released the House Of Pain hoodie . All proceeds from the sale go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation , an organisation close to House of Pain front man Everlast's heart. Peep this article on The 65 Roses Story and listen to the track from Everlast's album 'Songs Of The Ungrateful Living'. The classic Champion hoodie comes in clover green and incorporates both the Alife logo and the 'Fine Malt Lyrics' logo from the group's debut album. As I type this and less than 24 hours since it's release this is sold out online. You can still grab them in store as far as I am aware. Though you may be sore to have missed out, it's a great situation for the charity and all families that benefit from their continued research and support. Something that will cheer you up is rev

"Whatchu' Talkin' 'Bout Wednesday" - DJ Q-BERT

Image
DJ Q-BERT Of Invisibl Scratch Piklz in London, 100 Club AGMP presents DJ Q-BERT of Invisibl Scratch Piklz + special guests This is an easy post. I was able to see Q-Bert a couple years back perform his Jellyfish Lazer Face mix at the Jazz Cafe in London. It was inspiring watching him work the turntables and rock the house with the bass heavy mix. He finished with a bit of beat juggling and though it lacked the hip-hop cosmic slop I'd hoped for I still came away with an even greater appreciation of his talent. Last year I had tickets to see the entire Invisibl Skratch Piklz crew after the release of The 13th Floor but couldn't go for one reason or another. I just found out he's back for a date at the famous 100 Club on London's Oxford Street. It's a small intimate venue with a ton of musical history.  I'd most definitely have liked to see him in this environment but I'm away in Wales that week. Whether you have or haven't had the plea

ARMY vs NAVY

Image
" The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war. " - Douglas MacArthur Anytime I see military apparel I'm tranformed back to a little boy playing with plastic green army men. As an adult I have gained an appreciation for the form and function of the design as well as the practical use of materials, colours and  patterns. Though there are many brands that offer military inspired pieces in their collections, few are able to compare with the authenticity that Carhartt achieves.  A couple weeks back I stopped by the Carhartt WIP store on Earlham Street in Covent Garden and saw what I now know is their Military Program . The rugged yet clean look and high-quality of the garments are as you'd expect from the European line of the brand.  This season’s military program, marked by the new military woven label, is a collection reimagined from the early days of Work In Progress. It feature

"Whatchu' Talkin' 'Bout Wednesday" - Futura x Uniqlo Collection

Image
ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONIST FUTURA After the hugely successful collaboration with KAWS, Uniqlo's UT line spearheaded by Nigo is back this time working with Futura. This collection with the highly exalted graffiti artist turned graphic designer is bound to be a sure hit with streetwear heads and art fans alike. Futura is well known for his illustrative work for UNKLE and I was sorely tempted to purchase a print at the recent ' Daydreaming with UNKLE Present… THE ROAD: SOHO ' exhibition but a couple t-shirts will have to suffice. My wife and my wallet will breathe a sigh of relief at that news. It comes as no suprise that the t-shirts feature a number of Futura’s more recognizable works of art including Point Man, Point Man’s Henchmen, and Atoms. There's a paint splatter as well as a signature logo design that is a little reminiscent of the Damien Hirst 'Spin Paintings' which I'm sure Futura won't want to be associated with. So yeah sorry about that.

"Whatchu' Talkin' 'Bout Wednesday" - Thursday Nights

Image
Thursday is the one night of the week I get a late pass, usually. Fortunately this coincides with private viewings at the London galleries I follow as well as many other special events and launches. The only downside to this is if there are several happening on the same date that I want to get to, like tomorrow night. Deciding where to go and in what order isn't usually that hard, but from the sky it will look something like a pinball machine with regards to getting from one place to the next. Of course the offer of free beer and snacks help make up for any inconvenience. Below is my to-do list for tomorrow night. Parlance - Nick Smith Seeing Nick Smith's previous work for Paramour in the flesh really cemented him as one of my favourite artists. I find his use of 'colour-chip' methodology, along with his subjective interpretation (giving his work alternate meanings up close and from afar) fascinating.  Tomorrow night he's exhibiting at the Lawrence Alkin G
