Two For Tuesday - KAWSXPEANUTS and The Brands

Image
Following the recent Expressionist Futura collection the hype is back for the release of KAWSXPEANUTS this Friday.  Being in my early forties I have fond memories of the original Peanuts books and cartoons.  Consisting of the usual items - t-shirts, tote bags and slippers but the surprise addition of a Snoopy plush toy that comes in two sizes.  I particularly like the pocket t-shirts and a plush would be completely unnecessary but ever so sweet.  It's a great collection and there is something for everybody, young and old.  I've read in a few interviews that as Creative Director of the UT collections  Nigo  didn't want to put too much of himself into what he's doing, and yet anyone familiar with his design and art influences will know this is what makes his appointment such a great move. His   relationship with artists like Kaws and Futura will boost the brand identity and grow the audience, yet it's worth remembering that eve...

"Whatchu' Talkin' 'Bout Wednesday" - Futura x Uniqlo Collection

ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONIST FUTURA After the hugely successful collaboration with KAWS, Uniqlo's UT line spearheaded by Nigo is back this time working with Futura. This collection with the highly exalted graffiti artist turned graphic designer is bound to be a sure hit with streetwear heads and art fans alike. Futura is well known for his illustrative work for UNKLE and I was sorely tempted to purchase a print at the recent ' Daydreaming with UNKLE Present… THE ROAD: SOHO ' exhibition but a couple t-shirts will have to suffice. My wife and my wallet will breathe a sigh of relief at that news. It comes as no suprise that the t-shirts feature a number of Futura’s more recognizable works of art including Point Man, Point Man’s Henchmen, and Atoms. There's a paint splatter as well as a signature logo design that is a little reminiscent of the Damien Hirst 'Spin Paintings' which I'm sure Futura won't want to be associated with. So yeah sorry about that. ...

High Five! Part Five - Beatriz Urena aka Sheshynes aka Bellabeatriz

Image
Like James I met Bee through the Bapetalk2 forum years ago, and I've had the pleasure of watching her mature and grow like a rose. She is known for her selfies, style and her inspirational posts on Instagram. As a full time mother I have nothing but respect for her approach to life and the World around her. Oh and she's fiercely proud of her Dominican roots. Boricua, morena! Beatriz Urena - Mother, Fashionista, Model, Blogger, Mermaid B> Highlight of 2013 for you?  BU> Highlight of 2013 for me was being able to take two mini vacations from work and parenting aside from taking Abby to various children's concerts which she enjoyed greatly. B> What's it like seeing yourself on a t-shirt, and can we expect more in 2014?  BU> It's humbling that some people would actually want to wear my creation, but even more so with my face on it. I've been working on my second tee, its just a bit difficult being a mother and all to actually finish pro...

Lord of the Flies

I was fortunate enough to be invited along to a private viewing at the Tate Modern with my good buddy Mel. Both he and his wife have memberships entitling them to free entry and +1 which I hope will mean more visits to come. The first being to view the Damien Hirst Retrospective Exhibition . Firstly I had a few preconceptions and had almost determined my feelings about the exhibition before I'd even seen it. This was mostly due to the fact that Damien Hirst's work is often in the media, not to mention often very publicly criticised. I would guess that most people will be aware of a piece of his work albeit some unknowingly. I believe my first experience came about due to his work with skulls. Makes sense right? Upon entering the Tate Modern you're first offering is "For the Love of God". Perhaps better known as the platinum skull covered in 8,601 flawless diamonds including a pear shaped pink diamond in the centre of the forehead. Or if you prefer £50,00...
