"Whatchu' Talkin' 'Bout Wednesday" - Kid Rock For Senate
https://www.kidrockforsenate.com/
Well this is certainly an enticing story and wildly entertaining especially since the Huff Post and New Yorker are losing their shit over the announcement, along with many Democrats and in particular Elizabeth Warren, and really who knows what it can become once he officially registers. There's little doubt that Kid Rock has done much for the state of Michigan already, and his desire to do more from a political standpoint is certainly meritorious. I'm much more in favour of a play like this than celebs using their status to just openly and often ignorantly criticise whilst offering no solution to alleged grievances.
"Like politicians write books during their campaigns, I'm planning on putting out music during mine and IT ALL STARTS TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT. It's not a hoax, it's a strategy and marketing 101! No plans for an album or anything else that has been the usual norm in the music business OR politics…..and…..
Senator Stabenow and I do share a love of music, although probably not the same kind. I concede she is better at playing politics than I am so I'll keep doing what I do best, which is being a voice for tax paying, hardworking AMERICANS and letting politicians like her know that We the People are sick and tired of their bullshit!"Bob Lefsetz has written a pretty good article about the situation, of course with plenty of music industry anecdotes, you can and most definitely should read it HERE.
Make no mistake, a non-career politician who's achieved any success has more to lose doing something like this. The news that Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Kanye West might run for President in the future isn't as laughable as it would have been just eight years ago, which for me is indicative of the country's discord following the previous administration's two terms.
I have had a few discussions with people over the topic of voters being tired of politicians, yet once someone from the outside (i.e. Trump) gets in they are expected to behave like politicians. This thought process seems entirely counter productive to me, along with those that espouse politicians for making promises they have no intention (or history) of keeping. What is apparent is that this is not a quick solution to anything but rather a long term and welcome transformation within politics. This also gives someone like Caitlyn Jenner, who has stated she is considering running for Senate in California, an opportunity to be viewed from a perspective other than that from the gossip columns.
As a fan of his music, this certainly had me adding his albums to my playlists again and even considering buying a t-shirt. The website is nothing short of genius and he has the greatest campaign slogans of all time already (see above). Should you wish to support his campaign or just wear something completely and utterly American Badass you can order yours HERE.
