I haven't blogged for a while now, not because I haven't wanted to but just not found the time or energy. Been weird like that of late, on the plus it's because all my effort has been in the real World so it's not a bad thing. So here is a quick and easy post to start things back up again. When I first wanted to do this post I was really excited about finding a J-ROCK band called Jesse and The Bonez . Not only did they sound and look awesome, they also did a song called Bossman and had a bad ass vest to go with it!   At the time both the CD "Stand Up" and vest were sold out however. Also the Cd was not available on iTunes or download from anywhere. I was gutted. I tweeted the band asking if and when they would restock and got no reply. Probably busy being bad ass punk rockers. As with most things online it's well worth persevering and that's exactly what I did. I kept checking the web site and both came back into stock! Well at least one ...

"Happy 4th of July." What does that mean? The phrase comes easily but holds very little meaning when said in modern times I think. What makes it different from any other holiday? It would be beneficial to revisit the history books and evaluate how we are continuing to keep this country great, and our freedoms and independence intact. Other than the armed forces I'd argue we are not doing enough as citizens. I recently read a great piece by Dan Pearce (of the blog Single Dad Laughing), America & My Struggle to Feel Proud , and it struck a nerve and also helped ease my guilt on the subject. My version of the story is somewhat different as I haven't lived in the USA for the past twenty-seven years, but my love of home never dissipated. Everyone is talking about the new album from Kanye West - Yeezus. It has very divided reviews. I've heard a few tracks today via BBC Radio 6 who made it their album of the day. The good reviews all talk about it's more than a Hip Hop album, he is pushing boundaries and shouldn't be judged against his previous albums. I read an interview with Rick Rubin who is executive producer and he said he striped it right back in terms of the music and Kanye knocked the lyrics out in almost no time. This has troubled some people. On the one hand it's pure raw expression, but undoubtedly leaves Kanye open to criticism by doing an album in this way. On the other maybe fans are just wishing he'd do another more comprehensive album on a par with College Drop Out or Late Registration. Whilst we are taking a beating from wind and rain, it seems we need a flame thrower to bring in the Summer. To ensure I don't start suffering from SAD  I find myself listening to the first Prodigy album and it's giving me crazy energy and good vibes. The true mark of a great tracks and remixes. I have a lot of good memories of course from having listened to this and heard it at house parties in my youth, but it still stands strong aside from those. Easily my favourite album from the guys, not that the others didn't include classics too, but this set the benchmark. If you don't know about the Prodigy, get listening. EDM (really, did there need to be a new name for dance music?) as far as I can tell owes a lot to the early artists paving the way. So today I found out I will be seeing these guys on Friday 7th June at KOKO in Camden! Sam Arojo Action Bronson I've been trying to see Bronson for a while now and this is a great surprise and opportunity. You should already know Sam, and if you don't you can check him out here - Camo Socks . Whilst I don't necessarily feel every track or identify with all the subject matter Bronson spits (I have listened to Well Done, Blue Chips and Rare Chandeliers), the mastery of his flow and stage presence cannot be denied. By far my favourite album has been Rare Chandeliers, with notable guests like Evidence, Mayhem Lauren, Sean Price, Styles P and Roc Marciano, and heavy production by Alchemist. Koko is a decent venue, and weather should be good for the trip to Camden after work Friday night. Be good to catch up with Sam and let my hair down, so to speak. Jane's Addiction released the album Nothing's Shocking in 1988, and on it was the song "Ted, Just Admit It". Ranging from sombre to foaming at the mouth in attitude, with a bass line and drum beat that penetrates the soul, this song continues to have strong and very relevant meaning twenty five years later, and that is upsetting. Of course everyone can interpret any lyric in their own way and fine meaning and relevance but for me this is a great example of what we are currently and sadly still experiencing in regards to the media and press.
