Lord of the Flies

Image
I was fortunate enough to be invited along to a private viewing at the Tate Modern with my good buddy Mel. Both he and his wife have memberships entitling them to free entry and +1 which I hope will mean more visits to come. The first being to view the Damien Hirst Retrospective Exhibition . Firstly I had a few preconceptions and had almost determined my feelings about the exhibition before I'd even seen it. This was mostly due to the fact that Damien Hirst's work is often in the media, not to mention often very publicly criticised. I would guess that most people will be aware of a piece of his work albeit some unknowingly. I believe my first experience came about due to his work with skulls. Makes sense right? Upon entering the Tate Modern you're first offering is "For the Love of God". Perhaps better known as the platinum skull covered in 8,601 flawless diamonds including a pear shaped pink diamond in the centre of the forehead. Or if you prefer £50,00...

Summer Solstice 2012

Image
Summer Solstice - yesterday Wednesday 20th June 2012 marked the longest day of the year. I don't really know much about it, but it may well mark the end of the Summer here in the UK as we are forecast a deluge of storms in the next couple days alone. Put that hose pipe down I say! It's been a pretty weak effort at Summer to be fair, even our almost always annual trip to France was riddled with showers. Anyway, find out more about it by clicking the link, and take a look at this pretty picture why don't ya? It certainly felt like the longest day between the hours of 09:00 and 17:30. Not even a lunch time pint in the sunshine at my favourite haunt the Shaston Arms could make today pass quicker. The 'missable if you don't know' but 'huge when you do realise' plug on Ganton Street is still adorned in the Union Jack for the Queen's Jubilee, and foot fall outside the Shaston was slow until around 14:00 when we had to head back to work. Aliens vs. Ugly Dinosaurs

Wealth is of the heart and mind and not of the pocket? Someone might wish to express this notion to our friends Nike and Kanye West. Whilst at it maybe have a word with the artist formally known as Skateboard P, and wether this mantra really warrants being stitched into his highly priced (and in my opinion unimaginative) clothing line. This past weekend (9th June 2012) saw the much anticipated release of the Nike Air Yeezy II. I basically have a couple views on this that I want to share with you and hopefully find out how my peers and fellow sneaker enthusiasts feel about it too. My e-buddy @thelifeofsam planted this seed with his article over at So Fraiche and I'd really like to sit, smoke and throw around some ideas some time for a collaborative article with him. Just don't mention my longer second toe... Now the release of the Nike Air Yeezy I was a pretty special event. It lived up to the hype surrounding the release of a very limited edition shoe des...

"To associate (oneself) as a subordinate, subsidiary, employee, or member" Just a quick post to show twenty of my favourite t-shirts. All in one way or another have a theme, a common connection if you will. Can you work out what it is? Here's a little video to play whilst you watch the slideshow if you still need a clue. "The theory or attitude that physical well-being and worldly possessions constitute the greatest good and highest value in life."  Nothing deep or revealing in this post, just a filler. I was asked today if I was wearing a Rolex. I laughed it off of course, but it just goes to show you can spot class from 100 yards away (thanks to my   Hamilton King Khaki Scuba   automatic). It also shows I have pretty awesome taste, in both watches and people I have conversations with. I'm writing the final part of the   Tattoo-thousand and 12   trilogy, but not even close to finishing so in the mean time I wanted to share some of the things that have kept my brain synapses firing this past couple of weeks. Before I do though, I am very happy to say I am booked in at   Aching Soul   this coming Friday for more work on my Eagle/Sunset, and then at   Spear Tattoo   on July 4th to finish my dedication to Porno for Pyros.   First up is this leather jacket...

Tattoo-thousand and 12 pt 2

Image
Tattoo-thousand and 12 pt2 Where do I begin? Having lost a good six hours worth of writing I'm debating how best to conjure up the events covered. It would be impossible to rewrite word for word but only I will know the difference. Just gotta come to terms with the fact I was happy with what was done, and now whatever comes of this will have to do. So, part two. I want to dedicate this entry to a good man who has not only given me beautiful work but also raised my awareness of other artists and the world behind the needle. It's easy to see the websites, blogs, reviews of artists work but the behind the scenes in kept mostly well, behind the scenes. How artists relate to each other, their integrity and aspirations. It's a bad ass world for sure but the relationships, respect for and lack of can be found in more places than just the tv shows currently on air. Upon meeting Mr Lee you'd be forgiven for seeing only the hard exterior that comes with being an experien...

Three Things To Do Every Day

Image
I believe there are three things you can do every day that can change the course of your life. Number one, expect God’s goodness. Get up every day looking for God’s favor. Number two, recognize God’s goodness. There are no coincidences, no lucky breaks. It’s all the goodness of God. And number three, always thank God for His goodness. Anytime something good happens, big or little, give God the glory. “Lord, thank You for that parking spot. Lord, thank You for that idea. Lord, thank You for sending me dew in my desert.” - Joel Osteen's message for today I'd like to add to that last part "Lord, Thank you for making it possible to see Everlast tonight." Tonight at the 100 Club London Ev is doing "An acoustic evening with Everlast" and this thing sold out immediately. I only came across the date recently and spent the last week or so checking daily all ticket sites, ebay, gumtree, everywhere. I've not had the pleasure of experiencing the 100 Club so really ...
