Gram for Gram - Macklemore vs Kendrick

Now I know award shows are the least likely platform to find anything authentic, but this still got me and plenty of others heated.

Best Rap Performance: "Thrift Shop," Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Best Rap Song: "Thrift Shop," Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Best Rap Album: "The Heist," Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Best Rap Album: The Heist, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

So they were all -

But on hearing this I was more like -

Maybe it's just me getting confused between what's Hip-Hop and what's Rap? I will be honest I've only heard the single "Thrift Shop", albeit a billion times, and none of the album, but really? I mean you couldn't judge "Black Sunday" by Cypress Hill off the strength of "Insane In The Brain", or House of Pain's first album off of "Jump Around" alone right? Maybe.

So it could be I'm mistaken, only I know I'm not. 2013 had a shit ton of better songs and albums in that category, performances I'm less sure of I mean do they mean music video or performance for TV or what? And here's where you see that award shows are bull shit.

I was originally excited by the release of Good Kid m.A.A.d City and then slowly forgot about it. It's an album I will return to at some point. However it was touted heavily as album of the year, backed by several artists and nominated seven times in all. Yet Kendrick Lamar, who performed on the night, left with nothing. Later Macklemore sent Kendrick a text message admitting he 'robbed' Kendrick of the Grammy. How sweet.

Further proof that the industry doesn't know shit and should never be listened to. Fuck it, I don't care what they are saying, they don't speak for me and should never, ever be an influence. Suckas. I really don't know anything at all about Macklemore and like I said haven't heard anything other than that one song, so this is all based on gut feeling, as well as love, respect and pride for what I call Hip-Hop music. I should really check the other awards and winners and bitch about those too. Nah I don't think so. Peace.
